Why not put off the purchase of a CAI
for one year
while you learn all the facts
to avoid being a sucker
taken for $150 to $550 ?

High profit for the seller
CAI's always deliver
'Bling' like looks
and more noise.
The buyer gets almost no 'Bang for the Buck'

Brand new cleanable CAI filters
give a tiny power gain when absolutely new and clean
but then quickly clog up much faster than
a conventional 'good' paper filter with many pleats & surface area.

Volunteers like you have pooled their money to find this out with official tests:

If you think that CAI's give a MPG gain through
'Better Breathing'
please, please study how throttles work in daily driving.

No well done MPG test shows an increase with a CAI,
that is why even Toyota Priuses and Honda Insight's don't have them.

Why not hold off the purchase of a CAI
until you know how to measure 'restriction' of air intake sections
with a simple length of clear plastic tubing?

Don't be another sucker.
Spend your money on mods that really work first.

In no circumstance put the high cost of a CAI
onto a credit card balance
that is already more than you have been able to pay off.
Do not think this is a mod that pays for itself,
even if you intend to clean the filter.

I know of a guy who went to his favorite home remodeling store and bought 3" PVC, a couple of 45s, glued it together, painted it cobalt blue, put a filter on it and was good to go. It didn't look bad at all. And, it was a heck of a lot cheaper.

I'm gonna keep the K&N stock replacement filter because it's easy to clean and never needs replacing. I have had on in my Mustang for 158,000 miles with no signs of dirt in the intake track anywhere.
I've decided against the MIT for now as well. For power/economy gains, I'll wait for the Diablosport Predator to finally be released for the Hemi trucks. It made a nice difference on my 01 F150 that I used to have.

I believe a CAI is a CAI, it's simply a tube, nothing highly advanced about that. The most important part is the filter, and as far as filters go, you can't go wrong with K&N. Doesn't mean you need to spend $300+ on a K&N CAI. I bought mine for $150 from Air Ram, bought a K&N Cone filter for it, and saved myself over $100. Another thing about a CAI is that unless you combine it with higher-flowing exhaust and a tuner, you're really not getting much except a sweeter sound from the intake. When I bought my CAI, it felt like the engine was running smoother and had a little bit more get up n go. Thinking back on it, I realized that "increase" was probably from the fact the filter needed changing anyways. It's not a bad investment if you are planning to get a tuner, but until then, don't expect to see much of a change in performance or fuel economy.

$300 spent on the exhaust can truly give modest gains in both torque and fuel economy.

$300 spent on CAI's usually are complete wastes of money unless you are willing to wash the filter very frequently to get very small 1-3 hp gains that are only at wide open throttle.

If you have $300 to spend and want both improvements in MPG and acceleration,
buy two new tires that are the new designs for low rolling resistance.
Choose wisely and you will even get better braking
to go along with the better fuel economy and faster acceleration.

Got my Airaid installed today and I do notice a difference in accelleration and also getting a nice throaty roar to boot. I goosed the pedal and watched my wife's head jerk back - she turned to me and went "Wow, what did you put in this thing!?!?" haha.
