Default Warranty

Is it worth it to buy extended warranty, I have a 2005 dodge ram 1500 with only 1600km. Dodge wants 1200.00 for extended warranty for extra two years. Options.

Depends.

What do you plan on doing to the truck and how long do you normally keep a vehicle before getting another?

If you plan on modding the crap out of it that will effect the warranty then no. If not then maybe. If you only keep a truck for 4 or 5 years then no, but if you drive a vehicle until it is in the ground then yes.

What he said and more, also look at your driving habits, If you drive like a bat out of hell, then get it, but if you are easy on you vehicles, then dont worry too much.

However, I really would recomend it unless you dont intend on keeping the vehicle. In my opinion, any thing that has gone out on the truck already was bad from the factory, but untill you get to 20, 30,000 miles, you dont have really any trouble with "weak" from the factory parts. In my experience you have two kinds of parts that will be replaced inder warranty, bad and weak parts. usually if you treat it right and nothing has happened by 20,000 miles, then you probably wont have any trouble till much later down the road.

You do realize, your 05 may be out of bumper to bumper, but the 05 also came with a 7/70 power train, well 70K miles, so whatever that translates to.

I would not do it. With the power train it would have to be a major issue before you would end up paying that much to fix an issue that may fall within the new warranty window. Not to mention this warranty that is being sold to you probably has a deductible.

Most aftermarket warranties are a PITA. They try not to cover anything when you try to make a claim.
For $1200, you can fix almost anything that fails and have money leftover.

If it's a bumper to bumper warranty, I would definitely buy it. After all, it's an American vehicle.... trivial crap like power windows/locks, heat/air, sensors, etc, etc... will always be breaking. For some reason, we can't build reliable systems for that stuff. I bought the extended 3rd party warranty for mine when I bought it new. It doesn't kick in until the Dodge bumper to bumper is up, so I'm good for 7 years I believe. The lifetime power train warranty from Chrysler is the ONLY reason I'm back in an American vehicle. Otherwise I'd still be in my '94 Nissan where EVERYTHING still works, even the power mirrors.

Default Lifetime Maximum Care warranty

I wanted to get the extended warranty for my 2008 dodge ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 with the Hemi MDS. I did some checking around with the dealer, Chrysler directly and some other dealers around the country who sell genuine factory warranties over the internet (not the 3rd party stuff). I was able to get the lifetime (unlimited miles and unlimited years) for about half of what Chrysler wanted directly. I think it was around $1500 for it, so I thought it was worth it for the 5000+ components.

I am sure that many will say that it is not worth it, but for those of you who want the extra warranty...shop around and you will see a big difference in price for the exact same thing. If I can remember who I got mine from (sitting in Iraq right now so the info is not handy I will post it for those interested.)
