Hate to bring an old thread back to life, but it covers exactly what I am worried about. I have a 2003 Dodge Ram, with the Hemi, quad Cab 1500, bone stock basically, few real little things here and there. Anyways, just yesterday I needed to move some bags of concrete about 1/2 a mile inside a suburb on normal roads at a max speed of 25 mph. I did not know my load limit, so I figured I would just go for it. Loaded up 22 8 pound bags, 1760 pounds, in my bed, and made sure to drive slow, and avoided all bumps and potholes.

Now seeing as I just got this truck, and am still in the "Oh my god, what was that noise, I hope nothing is wrong" phase, i.e. I am still babying it until I am 100% confident in its and my own abilities, I was worried about busting anything up. I checked it out after I unloaded it, don't see anything wrong, nothing looks cracked, bent, or leaking, so I figure all is well. Basically, do you guys think I have anything to worry about? I figure I am fine, but just want some more opinions. Thanks.

Well, with 22 8lb bags you got nothing to worry about. I think you meant 80. These trucks can handle the load but technically you were overloaded. Your truck will live. Welcome to DF.

What else would a helper leaf spring do besides help with loads?

Thanks for digging this thread up, I needed it too. I was wondering the same thing. I have an 07 Megacab 1500 and I was actually wondering what it would take to make it a 2500 because I've been doing home improvement projects and I don't want to do anything overly unsafe. I put it next to a 2500 and I honestly couldn't visually detect the difference. I carried a pallet of pavers and it did fine.

Your Megacab 1500 is built on a 2500 frame. It is rated for more load than a standard 1500. Welcome to DF.

Yeah, I did mean 80, lol. Thanks for the reply, I figured everything would be ok this one time. I was thinking about it and it seems like if something horrible were to happen, like a leaf spring to snap, it would have happened right away, or very, very soon after putting the load in the bed.

All megacab trucks are rebadged 2500's -- you've got the hardware you need already.

This makes my 1300lb-thread from last week kind of pointless!

here are a couple pictures of my truck loaded with 2400 lbs of water. i have a 2wd and a 4.7. my truck handled it perfectly fine, i even have the stock goodyear hps on there. its squated quite a bit but i still had spring left in the rear end. i drove approximately 20 miles like this and on main roads.

this was about 2 years ago when i took this pic, i now have airbags on the back to reduce the squating.
