Default Getting ready for the field

Hi all,
I'm a new member to the board. Proud owner of a '08 ,electric blue 1500 4x4 bought last month. I bought the truck with the intention of working it this winter and now I'm just looking at getting it set up.
I need to install a tow package as I will be pulling a trailer (probably no more than 2000lbs +-500lbs) with quad in the back of the truck. The truck came with no tow package. Will installing just a regular hitch be enough to suit my needs? I've heard talk of tranny coolers etc. Is this all necessary? Its not like I'll be pulling the trailer all day every day- just a couple of times a month to and from the job site.
Also, I live in Canada and was wondering if anyone could recommend a hitch . I was going to pay a visit to the dealership on time-off, but you know how that goes.
Thanks in advance

Anyone know if a ranch hand brush guard for an 04 will fit a 08?

Thanks,
Ray

I don't think you need the cooler. it depends on how far you're going and such, but 2500 lbs should be effortless. Can I ask why you didn't just buy new? Would not have been much more at all, and you would have gotten a lifetime powertrain warranty.

You might want to just go into a dealership and ask how much the mopar hitch is. I've heard they are under $300 from the dealer, so might as well go with that.

Default Bumper good for 2000lbs min...

the bumper is good for 2000lbs, with 200lbs of tongue weight. for about $100 you could put a draw bar under the bumper. For another $50 or less, you could put a no-tap, plug in wiring harness.

That will bump you up to a class III/IV depending on load handling and tongue weight. Minimum 5000lbs.

If you only haul short distance and infrequently, you can get by with just a ball, and the wiring harness.

Well I don't know how much they are going for in the US but here in Canada you could get the 08s off the lot for $25,888 +tax and fees when I researched. Granted they are SLTs and you may be able to get a better deal depending on your negotiation skills, but I saw this one as a killer deal.

I only intend on working it for one season then sell in the spring and upgrade next fall. Now all I have to do is put on some new rubber , a bedliner and tow package (around 2k) and I'll be good to go. In the end I'll have it for 4 or 5 grand less than a truck with 0km , put on 10-15,00km and make $7-9k on it this winter and then hopefully sell it on at a competetive price without taking a loss this spring.

Well thats the plan anyways
