Diesels do get better mileage than gas....the diesel jetta gets like 40mpg or something like that. In a truck its possilbe to get high teens and 20's with a diesel....

13-14 city about 19 highway. Thats if I'm lightfooted in city traffic, which I'm usually not. Driving normally, I get 11.5mpg around town.

Default mileage

I'm with woodchip. I could honestly care less what kind of mileage my truck gets. I've never even checked it. Those who buy one of the biggest trucks on the market don't have the right to complain about gas mileage in my opinion (but that's just me and I'm a nobody

the most common MPG reported in hundreds of posts for both
3rd Gen and 2nd Gen Rams
with either 4.7/5.7/5.2/5.9 engines
is 13 MPG

old post
=====
The September 2007 issue of Consumer Reports arrived
and has an article on page 52 reviewing full size pickups
with most written on 1500 models
but they did test 3/4 ton diesels from Dodge, GM and Ford
and had all gasoline and diesel pickups tow the same 7400 lb trailer.

High Points:
Consumers Reports says that the reliability of the Ram has now
improved enough that they make it a 'recommended' pick.

Low points:
The new diesels with the new emissions and ULSD fuel
all showed quite low MPG in 'mixed' driving and towing the 7400 lb trailer:

Ford 250 6.4L........10 MPG mixed....8.7 MPG towing
GM 6.6 Duramax.......13 MPG mixed...10.4 MPG towing
Dodge 6.7 diesel.....13 MPG mixed...10 MPG towing
Dodge 5.7 gasoline...13 MPG mixed....8.2 MPG towing

The Toyota Tundra 5.7 was 15 MPG mixed and 8.4 towing

It's not a function of needing a tune up, but rather, the 2500s do NOT have the MDS option that the 1500 do and therefore, our mileage will be much less than the 1500s.

I have a 2500 and I get around 12 in town and 14-15 on the freeway. If I have my camper on and am on the freeway, I get around 12. Towing the boat and the camper, around 9.5. I bought the truck to work it...does a great job of that.

Diesels are better for mileage and are a lot heavier and did not come with a lifetime warranty.

In the reviews so far of the
2009 Ram auto with the MDS and Variable Valve timing 5.7 v8
the reviewers are reporting only 12.7 MPG in mixed driving
