My 4.7 uses a little after switching to synthetic. It's about 1/2 quart every 3k miles.

Cool

What would cause that much usage of synthetic compared to conventional oil? Is there that much wear on an engine with only 33,000 miles on it?? I mean I use part synthetic and it doesn't go through 1/4 quart or even that much between oil changes and I have 56,000+ on it. I hope that isn't the normal usage for synthetic, because I'm switching to RP when I get back. I would have them do an oil analysis to see if there something wrong.

Good luck H-

40k miles on my '04, Mobil 1 since about 12k miles, RP on last oil change about 3600 miles ago. Never had it be a hair low with the Mobil 1 at 3k mile changes. Going to stretch it to 6k with the RP, but at check at 3000 miles the oil still looked almost new and it was right at the full line still...

not to be a smart *** but did you check your oil level after you initially started it up after the oil change? cuz my truck takes 6 quarts then after i start it up and oil flows threw itll take the last quart

ya i checked it, and the oil looks great when u pull the dipstick ,truck is hardly driven and it is still a quart low in a 1,000 miles. this is gonna drive me nuts does anyone have the info on where to get a oil analysis done by the way it never used a drop on conventional oil

Default Using AMSoil

I've not used RP but I have about 7500 miles since my change to AMSoil and haven't used a drop. I did opt for the bypass unit with the AMSoiler which added about 3 quarts to the capacity.

I wouldn't think synthetic oils would cause consumption. Did you check for leaks? One person I know switched to RP for his tractor and it went from using 1 to 1.5 quarts of conventional oil to using none with RP! Needless to say he's pleased with RP.
