For general driving, cruise control is your friend, also maintaining distance between the car in front of you helps - if you hit your brakes, you will need to hit the accelerator, but if you minimize hitting the accelerator you will maximize mileage.

Along the highway I take to work we can use "toll" passes (RFID transponders) for the carpool lane, allowing a solo driver to use that less than congested lane. Going 65 MPH on cruise control all the way to work sips gas, it's the stop and go (or slow and speed) that kills you.

I can pay a toll each way ($ .50 - $1.00) and still save money. Plus I'm whizzing by the folks and I'm home in 20 minutes rather than 45.

If you don't have a toll option, maybe a Cabbage patch kid and a car seat (bonus points for Baby on Board sticker!)

7mmmag1, HankL listed some good sites to read through. My suggestions are use synthetic oil, lose the radiator clutch fan (get an E-fan), get a bedcover (cloth will work), open the rear sliding window and crank your fan up to 2 or 3. Seriously, these all work. My truck will get 21 mpg on the highway at 65mph. I also suggest trying Conoco fuel. If you drive in hills like I do out here, DO NOT use the cruise control. It is better to use your foot and let the truck slow down a little as you climb the hill, instead of maintaining the same speed.

[edit] I run 40 psi in my tires...

just to make you guys sick I got some of that gumout regane fuel system cleaner (free w/ mail in rebate from autozone) and I have been averaging 18.5 mpg in my daily driving which is about 70% city 30% highway.

Oh, and I got a free set of 275/60/20s that are takeoffs from a brand new truck for free to replace my worn out ones

i tried filling in premium 91 fuel from an empty tank hoping maybe it will improve my mpg and performance. so anyways i filled in about 1/4 tank and about half way through my engine check light was on. can it be because i never serviced my truck for 3 years or can it be the different fuel. long story short after i ran out of gas the engine light went off and i did not see im provements in mpg or performance

well the reason why u are getting bad miliage is because of the color of your truck. if u think about it ,the shinier your ride is the easier it can cut through the wind....

if u wanted performance enhances, then i would say clean ur engine and also the inside of the exhaust tip. also wipe down the interior to reduce weight from left over dust that has settled. and if u still want more then try taking off one of your windshield wipers. it should reduce the overall weight of the truck
