Cool New CAI - finally!

OK - my cheap-o cold air system that I bought from eBay arrived today, and I must say, it is not too bad. It is aluminum and has a nice finish to it.
so here are some pics.....

It was originally designed to be used with the Hemi 'hat'. This was my initial setup using the 'hat'. I only used one of the tubes.

I had to go to the auto parts store to get a grommet for the air temp sensor that is attached to the 'hat', and had to drill a hole in the new piping.
So off with the old....

Here is the modified new pipe for the air temp sensor. I actually used a PCV grommet for a Toyota! LOL

Then the final product:

Notice the air temp sensor and the crankcase air hose on the bottom of the pipe that connects to the filter. I disconnected the battery for about an hour while I did all of this so it would reset. Everything runs great with no error lights, and that WOT sound is freakin' outrageous!! I like it...

lolz i had that same setup awhile back and it worked good for the price, actually the other kits i had that cost like 300$ werent any better. Mine came with a grommet though and funny thing at certain rpms if i had the windows down and let off it would make bov sound! Got many a puzzled looks and wonderments from people thinking i had a turboed ram

That's hilarious! Keep in mind, this kit actually was made to bolt onto the hemi hat box, and the filter sat way down in the fenderwell. That worried me regarding water, etc....so I 'modified' it! The sound is pretty loud. I like it.
Next week, I am getting a new muffler to install. I am going with Thrush, and will use existing pipe where necessary.

OK so it's been 4 days now and still no engine lights, etc. The damn thing sounds awesome - and all for less than $50! I ordered my Thrush muffler today from Jeg's - I will post pics when it's installed as well. Thanks!

Looks really good. I did the Ebay K&N CAI for about the same price I think. One mod I did was made some braces for it with bent up aluminim flat stock about 1/4 x 3/4 x 8 off the airbox mounting frame. You might want to do this too. put it under one of the center clamps and there is that screw next to the dip stick to mount it too. I just didn't like it bouncing around with no support. The sound is way cool too I have the Flowmasters 40's on it too. If can ever figure out how to get the photos up loaded I can show it off. I'm looking to add another tube to bring it closer to the front more. I could never understand why they would make it mount to the air box, did you ever look inside of one? It's just a box which means all the air goes in and starts bouncing around instead of a straight shot to the TB.

Looks great. I am toying with the idea of ordering one for my Ram. One idea I had was to paint the hat box to sorta match the intake tube?
