05 Ram limited slip question
I have an 05 Ram Hemi Quad 4x4 1500 with Limited slip rear axle
Things that have made me wonder recently if there is a problem with the rear axle.
1. Breaks loose all the time on any sort of wet pavement. (my tires suck, I am getting new ones this week)
2. I had the rear end up in the air to fix a flat tire and when I went to tighten the lugs, it stayed locked so I could tighten them. Most trucks or jeeps I have had, if both rear wheels were off the ground they would turn in opposite directions when you tried to hand tighten them.
3. In the wet weather yesterday, pulling a small trailer I would spin when ever i got on it at all and actually break the back end loose enough to throw it sideways.
4. Also yesterday on wet roads I could feel and hear the inside tire on a slow turn chugging like the axle was locked.
Any thoughts, or is this just the way it is?

The stock LSD in your truck is probably the single most failure prone part in the history of Dodge Trucks. Do a search here or even Google for "C-Clip" and you will find novels written about the issue.
You should pull the pumpkin cover off and inspect your rear diff. My bet is you'll find pieces of metal in there, just waiting to grenade the gears, if they haven't started to do so already. Do yourself a big favor and have the stock LSD pulled and replace it with a high quality unit like the Auburn Gear or Detroit TruTrac before you find yourself having to replace the whole rear end...

Around $520 or so last time I looked.
I fitted my DTT 6 weeks or so ago and have NEVER looked back!
Truck drives smooth and I'm happy that I'll never have the retaining clip probs ever again!
