All 4.7s
with lower winter temperatures now here,
it is a good time
for two 4.7 Ram owners to get together
(or other engines... even other vehicles)
and do a highway test
where one truck takes the fan blades off
for half the trip
and then there is a swap
and the other truck runs without the fan
for the return
road trips to football/basketball games far away
hunting trips
trips to far away relatives
are common this time of year
and ideal opportunities
to do a good test yourself
this is like a SAE/TMC Type IV test
and is far more accurate and dependable
than other types of MPG tests
and you need this improved method
to see the small change with and without the fan
test it yourself
is an American spirit

Also, I have noticed you don't even own a 4.7L or even a 3rd Gen Ram... so how in the world can you even begin to relate with the board members on this subject?
The tread title is CLEARLY titled "ALL 4.7L's" Yet you make NO post on your personal experience with them... just your twisted thoughts on what members need to do to prove your points.
I'm not being mean nor am I attacking you... I'm just suggesting you spend some of your OWN money and prove just ONE of your many allegations on your own.
Why the mediators have let you run a muck is beyond me... I post from my personal experience as an enthusiast, so my post, debatable to some are at least ON TOPIC and backed up with actual experience.
Why dont you hang out with the 2ng Gen Crowd... Since thats what you own and drive you may find you would have more in common with them then those in the 3rd Gen section.... Just trying to help you get along.
SPEED SAFE, AIR RAM

very few Ram owners have posted
the results of more self done experiments
than I
water injection with a 2nd PCV,
overdrive on/off,
KN/oem filter/no filter test with 8 quarter mile runs,
full throttle OBD recording of ign timinng, IAT, MAP, O2 senor voltage, & coolant temp
fan on/off MPG test over 214 miles at steady 70 mph,
180/195/205 and no thermostat pinging & MPG tests
Fifty-fifty Glycol/EVANS COOLING NPG/pure water coolant tests
measurement of oem air inlet restriction inches of water using cheap manometer
MAP sensor test up climbing up Mt Mitchell NC
IAT sensor ohms check at various temperatures
cheap EGT cylinder balancing using the $29 Sears Multimeter with type K thermocouple
seven different spark plug designs
Bendix front pads and GM big diameter rear wheel brake cylinder on-the-road stopping tests
Ball joint changeout step by step and warnings about 3 different press kits
plus the Magnum Engine Sparkplug FAQ, (23 pages)
plus the Ram MPG improvement FAQ (more than 40 pages)
and many more, all in the archives of several forums, all with date stamps
many of those experiments took months to do ( like OD/ON/Off)
and I can't count how many 214 mile round trip MPG tests I have done on I-40
most people lament I record too many experiments and write too much
... but a basic tenet of Engineering is to write everything down in a notebook,
and all I have really done is post the notes I take
.... just like the great Americans the Wright Brothers
I encourage other Ram owners to do experiments themselves
just for the fun of it too

A special request to any 4.7 Ram owners
who has the new
2008+ 'Corsair' version of the 4.7 V8
since you all have a new version of the
viscous fan clutch (see quote below)
doing a MPG test
with and without your special clutch fan
would help most other Ram owners
consider whether to make a fan change.
"In order to improve fuel economy, the new engine features a patented hybrid cooling fan system that combines in-line electric and engine-driven fans. This system allows the engine fan to idle at a very low speed (250-300 rpm. vs. the typical 650-700 rpm.), decreasing noise and vibration at idle and low speeds. "
