i have a short bed with the small gas tank.can i take the bigger tank off a long bed and fit it under my truck without a bunch of mods? tired of stopping at the gas station so often.

 

I looked under my truck(06 rcsb) and there is a little room behind the tank and some extra room in front. If you have the 26 gallon tank the next bigger tank is the 34 gallon. You would have to find it's size and then measure to see if it fits. Maybe someone with the bigger tank would measure theirs for you.

 

My QCSB has the 34 gallon tank, don't see why it wouldn't fit in yours.

 

The longbed comes with the 35 gallon tank, and from the factory it was ONLY available on the longbed. The optional larger tank on the shortbeds is 34 gallons, so I would bet it wouldn't fit. I can't imagine why they would make a whole different 34 gallon tank instead of just the option of the 35 gallon if it fit.

 

gotcha.sounds like i need to check into the 34gallon tank.all that extra room in front and in back of the tank is one reason i thought it might work.i was just hoping someone had tried it.

i would probably have to have my overhead readout reprogrammed too. if i wanted it to read close to right. wouldnt i?

 

The fuel gauge may be off also. You will have to check min/max resistance of both sensors and determine if there is a difference. If there is, you can probably just swap fuel delivery modules from the two tanks and keep the same one in your truck so the gauge works at least close. Be careful when you get close to empty the first couple times until you figure out how realistic the gauging is. Post what you find on this, I am sure you are not the only person who is interested in this...

 

I think the only thing that would be different for the overhead console is the Distance To Empty, which is horribly inaccurate anyway. I'm not sure how it calculates it though - it could either be a setting that says "I have 26 gallons and I've used X" or it might be related to the fuel fill gauge. Fuel economy, mileage, etc. shouldn't be effected by the different tank size. If it is something you need reprogrammed, you're probably going to have to go to the dealer for that.

 

well i have searched and googled and searched with no luck.i have been to many sights and forums.been searching all day.i guess i am going to have to find another truck to be able to measure everything.

i just cannt believe that nobody has actually tried this.

 

Maybe an auxillary tank in the bed is an option?

 

I think everyone feels that the cost of filling a 26 gallon tank is enough, let alone a 34 gallon one.
