Default How much weight for winter???

Getting my new rims and tires on tomorrow but we have some snow so I threw about 400 pounds in the back of my truck. Not to sure if I will keep that much weight in the back after the new tires are on... What does everyone else put in their bed for the winter?

I went to HomeDepot and bought 5 bags of tube sand at 50lbs a piece. I will put them over the center of the axle when the weather hits.(between the wheel wells) I can feel the 250lbs back there when I hit the gas. I didn't want anymore because it will throw the stance off and cause terrible mileage. Not to mention I can really feel the 250lbs back there. 400lbs is quite a bit.

Yeah I almost had the truck leveled, but left the front a tiny bit lower than the back. Now with all that weight the back may be a little lower. I'll be able to tell easier tomorrow with the new rims and tires

I would almost sy that your on the verge of sacrificing handling as well. I thought 250 was just noticeable but not a raeal loss. I was also worried if I left the weight back there 4-5months out of the year if it would "squish" my suspension and freeze it like that, but lots of guys have tool boxes and those things are usually loaded to the gills.

Putting new rims on before winter? Most people take their rims off for winter so they don't go through all the salt.

I'm not to worried about it...Needed new tires badly so I decided to throw some new 20's on as well. And I didn't think it would be worth buying new tires right now for my 17" rims, then have to buy new tires in the spring for my 20's... As far as handling I haven't really noticed a thing so far. Didn't get to pick the truck up yesterday cause I was out hunting. When I get it tomorrow ill probably take at least 100 pounds out and see what its like.

400lbs should be nothing for the truck. that's like having 2 people back there. it'll hurt your mileage if you do a lot of city driving, but that's about it.

Yeah thats what I was about to say also. I bought one of those "ShurTrax" truck bladders for about half price from Amazon a few months ago and have yet to try it out. It holds about 400 lbs if I am not mistaken. Seems like a good design and its logical so I will let everyone know how it works.

When I bought mine it was $70 shipped.

I put 4 cement blocks secured in a wood frame over the axle. I can add more blocks, but I'm hoping 4 is enough to help out the studded snow tires.
I used to carry 10 blocks in my last truck, a 1991 Cummins D250.
