Default Blew my 4.7l Engine and am considering...

Hello, I have a 2002 Ram 4x4 and blew my engine last week. I am looking for suggestions on possible engine swap to a Hemi or just going reman and adding some performance mods to it, as I feel it could use more HP and Torq for all of the weight. Anybody have suggestions or opinions on what I should do? Thanks.

Since you have the old 4.7s which put out considerably less amounts of hp and tq than the newer 4.7s, much less the newer hemis, i would say go with the hemi swap. I think you will be much happier.

What happened?

You could also just rebuild your 4.7L with a set of Forged Scat Rods & 10.5:1 Ross pistons (1,554.00) , Ported heads & H/O cams with an SCT tune (2,689.00)... You will have more HP then a stock HEMI for a fraction of the cost of a HEMI swap. $4,243.00 will get you one bad 4.7L that will take a beating all day long and ask for more!

ya i hear doing the "hemi swap" has alot more complication to it then just a swap. have you looked into it? i would say it would probably just be better to rebuild and make it a h/o 4.7 ltr out of the gates!

i thought about the 5.7 swap. unless you got deep pockets and a lot of free time, step back. if you still want to go for it.. i have the dash wiring harness, engine wiring harness, and engine bay wiring harnesses if you need them.

money wise
for a Ram as old as 2002 with a 4.7
the best course would be to purchase a running 4.7 from a salvage yard
and install it

for upgraded performance with 'most bang for the buck'
trade this Ram in on a new or used Ram with a 5.7 Hemi
and make upgrades wisely from there

I agree, that would be the cheapest way out of it. BUT you never know what that Salvage engine has been through. So you may be buying another 100,000.00 miles or you may be buying the last 10,000 miles that engine has left.

Building one would start you fresh, building one with performance orientated parts will build you some additional reliability and additional performance.

But I do agree... if your in a pinch... You could just swap in a Salvaged engine... Even Craigslist.com may have a few in your local area.
