I got the pencil beam hella 500's from walmart for about 60 bucks 3 months ago. As far as power I just tapped on to the main power as it enters the main fuse box and ran the switch to the same power source so I can use them anytime with or without the headlights. I then ran spiral wire covers over all of it and tucked it away moving parts and heat running it with the stock wiring for an OEM appearance. I can take some photo's if you want.

What you should do is post them up. I'm interested in seeing how you put those in myself. I'm going to get some soon, I have some checks to cash, and that'll be good for getting me those lights.

I just attached mine right to the battery. They come on whenver I need them to.

Also, be aware - the Hella 500s come in driving or fog lights. Not sure what the difference is but there may be one.....I bought mine on eBay for $40. They were two separate lights, not the kit. But I wired it up with a relay etc from another light kit that I had.

^main power and switch both powered off the fuse box under the hood^

^switch wiring transfer through firewall via dead panel^

^in cabin switch^
Please excuse the dirt, I found some mud puddles recently.

anyone ever try mounting those things in the stock fog location? id really like to do something like that. i dont have fogs right now, but i had em on my old ram, and well.. they didnt do much. just filled the gap between the front bumper and where the headlights were shining. i'd like some lights that are low but really light up the road without shining in other peoples eyes.

Fog light are designed for one thing..... fog. They are low intesity and mounted low on the vehicle for the same reason, to reduce glare back and "cut through the fog" increasing the distance you can see, that is also the reason low beams are better than high beams in the fog. The traditional amber colored fog lights go further by using a light color that has a longer wavelength therefore decreasing glare back compared to your headlights. Regardless of how many people I see using them as driving lights, you will never convince me that they make "good" driving lights, the beam pattern is very different from actual dedicated driving lights and they are mounted to low to be useful on anything but flat roads. I think the best spot for diving lights are high as you can possibly mount them.

i was waiting for that answer. i understand the point of fog lights, its just that i have some tiny rectangular PIAA's mounted on my 71 nova that are maybe 5 inches off the ground that shine farther than the stock ram fog lights, and are low enough to get under fog. may just have to give in and do what you guys did.
