I went with a Code Alarm STR-9000. One of the few brands that allows the use of factory remote functions and their own remotes as well. It's a VSS sdpecific application and a great product. Ofcourse mine is a remote start/alarm combo. They have just alarm combos as wel. I purchased from here: http://www.autoalarmpro.com/home They set everything up and gave step by step instructions for idiouts. It was super easy! Everything was under the steering column. They gave a test probe and all. By far the best I have installed and dealt with. Any moron in the electrical world can install a kit they make for your specific vehicle. No relays, resistors...etc... Check'em out.

take a look at the new viper 5901. or python 991. same thing essentially python and viper both made by DEI. a place called thunder audio video sells these units for approx 300 bux. great service and is a licensed dealer. things have 1 mile range, rechargable battery remote, monitor interior temp when remstart. all sorts of stuff. i plan on buying the 5901 and installing it as well.

Neither the viper nor the Python will be as easy as installing a VSS specific system unless they are set-up that way and ordered accordingly! Especially when compared to a VSS kit that is an assembled kit like Autoalrmpro creates. They install every crimp connector, include all possible connectors and step-by-step color instructions. They will tell you that the power wire is pink with a white trace for ignition, stuff like that. Trust me I have installed a few alarms and nothing compares. If you haven't installed anything on a vehicle that has a sentry type key, I guarantee you will be completely lost! I paid $75 more for their kit, but it was installed in under 3hours from start to finish. I even recieved a fre Telematics so I can call from my cell phone to lock/unlock and enable alarm. If you have never even installed an alarm before on any vehicle, you shouldn't even think about getting auniversal kit. Go with the link I gave.
The non VSS kits are all relayed, need resistors installed...etc They are a PIA

Some A$$ decided it that they needed the empty Best buy bag on my passenger seat and decided to break my passenger window.

I ended up installing Hornet 727T, $150 installed ($300 with a passenger window). It works with my stock remote start and uses the factory key.

LMAO. I'm sorry but that's just too funny. Friggin desperate idiots. If they don't wanna pay the Best Buy price for the product, go on ebay and get it much cheaper. scuzzbags!

you just have to purchase the factory interface box from directed electronics for any of the viper and python systems. fully integrates the alarm/remstart to factory computer. installation takes approximately two hours for a good tech. and that includes tucking the brain and making it all look damn good. no relays or resistors needed.

all new directed alarms have built in manual trans safety modes and older ones have an optional module that can be added. this mode makes it impossible for the vehicle to be remote started if key steps are not followed and the vehicle is not left in neutral. there must also be a relay added to bypass the clutch switch when the remote start is activiated. you could just cut the wire and permanently bypass it but i prefer a relay so that when not remote starting the clutch switch acts completely normal.
