Front Leveling Kits - 2WD
So, I see these front leveling kits on eBay from Fat Bob's Garage. I know I have seen this name mentioned here on the forum. Has anyone used their leveling kits? And if so, how were the results?
The kit is only $60 or so. Of course, I will need to get it installed because I don't feel like tackling something like that myself. I just turned 40, so crawling around on the ground on my back does not appeal to me! LOL.
Just need some of your guy's opinions. Thanks.

Never used any of Fat Bob's products, but through the years, on better than a half dozen forums I've been on, I've only read positives on any of their products. Go for it...
As far as the install goes, COME ON NOW DUDE! I'll be 42 next month, toiled around the minors for years as a catcher, have had knee & back surgeries and currently need one for a hernia and I'll put a whole lift kit on by myself

Yeah, well I may not be as adventurous as you! LOL
My cousin is a mechanic, so I will -ahem- "assist" him with the project. He has the lift and the tools to make it an easy thing.

is this spacer that sits on top of the spring or a spacer that sits on top of the strut assembly? if it is a spacer on top of the strut assembly the install is fairly easy. you can take that whole assembly out without a spring compressor and on a newer truck the upper ball joint is real easy to seperate. took me 3 hours taking my time and i was alone. with a buddy it could have taken half the time. i have a 4x4 but i cant imagine it would be much different. the spacers that sit on top of the spring are a little more difficult because you have to take apart the strut assembly using a spring compressor and install it on top of the spring and put that back together.
here are the install directions and you can decide whether or not you feel like doing it
1. jack up truck
2. put jack stand under and remove tire
3. use the jack to put some pressure on lower control arm
4. loosen upper ball joint nut and when it hits bottom of the threads use a hammer to gently tap upwards on the nut. when ball joint seperates take nut off and push up on upper control arm.
5. loosen and remove 3 nuts on top of strut
6. remove lower sway bar link nut
7. lower lower control arm with floor jack until strut assembly is free and lower enough to take out.
8. remove main lower strut bolt.
9. remove strut assembly from vehicle and install spacer on top of strut
10. put back together
be carefull of the brake lines so they do not stretch and or get pinched.
those are basic directions to do a leveling kit its pretty easy...........

This is 2" spacers but they said on some models the 1.5" are better.....
From the eBay add.....
These high quality polyurethane spacers are an economical way to get more clearance on your truck for bigger tires. This is a simple and economical way to lift your two wheel drive Dodge Ram with coil springs. Unlike the competition, the coil spring is inserted into the spacer for a secure fitment. This ensures that the spring will not pop out when you hit a large bump.

I am installing the following on my 2500HD 2WD this weekend or next (depending on parts delivery):
Daystar P/N KC09100BK Coil Spring Spacers 2 1/2"
Rancho P/N RS5044 Front SHOCK
This isnt FatBobs but another kit I saw a lot so I went with it...same concept, polyurethane spacers and longer shocks.
I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks

I had two hernias repaired in February. The most painful thing I have ever been through. Women that have had hernias repaired compared it to child birth. You have my sympathies.
yeah that style spacer sits on top of teh spring instead of on top of the strut. they require a little more work to install and youll need a spring compressor and take apart the strut assembly to place this ontop of the spring. i went with an all steel 2.5" spacer that bolts to the 3 studs on strut and then has 3 new studs to go into the strut tower holes. alot easier of an install. i dont know why they make both styles and i reallyc anot say which is better. but i have had mine installed for about 1200 miles now and i have no problems and i love it. as long as it gives you the look you want its a great mod. i personally chose what i did for ease of installation and price so i didnt have to pay a shop a few hundred to do it.
They sell a 1.5" kit that they say will definitely work with the stock shocks. They also sell a 2" kit with new Pro Comp shocks that are a little longer. They said the 2" spacers alone may or may not fit the stock set up. Maybe the stock shocks are just barely long enough. I may go with the new shocks, etc. I like the look of it. BTW, the kit with the shocks was about $150. Not too bad, I guess.
