Sense finding 5w30 Mobile 1 is all but impossible around my area I am going to put in Royal Purple tomorrow. I guess I will see how it works.

I got very favorable results when I switched to RP after basically 20+ years of using nothing but Mobil 1!
My Grand Cherokee is getting a solid 2+ mpg increase and runs noticeably smoother.
My truck hasn't shown the same mpg increase but IS also running & idling a bit smoother.

Also, the RP seems to be cleaner at change time, even though I've gone from 3k intervals with the Mobil 1 to 6k intervals with the RP to justify the extra expense.

I think once you use the RP and then do an oil change, you'll probably not go back to Mobil 1...

Isn't the purpose of oil to clean the engine? if it never gets dirty then that means the gunk is builing up inside there, granted it should never be black or gooey or you've got to change the oil sooner, but to a certain extent ya know? Oil has that tendency to look much dirtier in a darker color than it really is. People are saying RP has is purple and more transparent, so it would need much more dirt and grime to look dirty compared to normal color oil...Just my .02 even though I have never had the experience of seeing RP. Is it the same color as their coolant additive?

It goes in purple, but never comes out that way. I think I remember reading somewhere that it's just a dye and losses the color the first time it comes up to temp.

I hope so.

I got it at Wally World for about the same price as Mobil 1 for those who are paying a lot.

Paid $6.72 a quart for 5w30.

That's actually pretty good, I've found down here that RP runs about $1.80-$2.00 a quart more than I can get Mobil 1 for.

Once you switch to RP I think you should change it at around 3k the first time, then you can go like HAMMER to 6k or more after the first change. It will clean your engine and keep it clean thats why it looks CLEANER at changes because it keeps the engine clean. I think thats what HAMMER was saying. Thats opinion anyway. I have switched to RP and will never go back.

I'm not trying to talk you out of RP, or into anything for that matter, but Wal Mart carries Mobil 1 in all the weights, even the 5W20 I use. They have it in the larger containers (4 or 5 quarts, depending on Mobil, as well as the 1 qt. containers.

Wal-Mart has RP? Well, I might have to go there to look for some. I plan upon changing my oil here in a little, and was going to go to Advanced Auto to get some, but might have to check out Wally.
