2007 new to me Dodge RAM 1500 quad cab 4x4 SLT (variable displacement 5.7 ltr Hemi) Love this truck... but I have some concerns about the variable displacement engine and how it works. Any one with knowlege regarding the longevity of this engine could help me with some chat about their experience.

I just purchased one as well, and have been wondering how the MDS effects the engine life. I don't think it would have a major effect on the engine life, but I really don't know. Luckily, I have a lifetime warranty (as long as Chrysler doesn't go under).

welcome to DF.
alot of guys hate the mds and get a programmer that enables them to turn it off, ( i have a 4.7l that luckily doesnt have mds) the engine seems to go strong just as any engines with continued maintenance would. As i have noticed with my brother in laws hemi with mds the mpgs are about the same as my 4.7 anyways. so it doesnt seem to be that beneficial. The most annoying thing is exhaust on a hemi with mds engine. my B.I.L has a flowmaster 50 series and you can tell when the mds kicks in, its not terrible but it makes me feel lucky i dont have it in mine with a fm40 series.....
