Default P0404 fault code (EGR valve)

I have a 2005 Ram 1500 4.7L with cat back exhaust (flowmaster) and an air aid intake.

My check engine light came on the other day. i took it up to auto zone so they could hook it up to their computer to get the fault code, it gave us P0404 " PCM has determined that the control circuit for the EGR system is out of range for the current engine operating conditions. Probable causes, failed EGR position sensor, open or short circuit, failed egr valve, failed egr pressure sensor."

I'm just wondering if any of you guys have had this before and what you did to fix it. The truck is still running great, no issues what so ever. My main concern is i am getting ready to make a trip from Texas to Florida to see my family for x-mas and i just want to make sure its not going to die on me, the guy at autozone told me that its not much to worry about he drove his old car with that same problem for 2 years after replacing the valve and the light never went out..

Thanks in advance for the help guys!
Kenny

It's normal for the EGR Valve to die somewhere between 40k - 60k miles. Buy one and replace it, the CEL should go bye-bye...

I'd put it on when you have time. Take it back and have them clear the code after you put it on.

It's a relatively inexpensive part and at most a 30 min. install. You are in no real danger of breaking down on your trip, but a failed EGR along with a dirty Throttle Body are probably the 2 biggest causes of poor fuel economy...

I have the same code along with P 0406 -- I understand that both deal with the EGR valve. Can anyone tell me exactly where the EGR valve is in a 2005 Ram 1500?

Many Thanks

I believe its on the passenger side attatched to the front of the head. It has a metal tube attached to it.
