Default Yay or Neh on Supercharger

Hey guys I am really getting ready to start modding my 05 QCSB 4x4 ram 1500 with the 4.7. I just have to pay off the rest of the engagement ring that I bought for my fiance and pay off school. I am only 19 so I am doing pretty well for my age. Anyways I am going to be adding a K&N FIPK, 70mm TB, Gibson headers, magnaflow free flow cats, aftermarket Y or H pipe, magnaflow 5x8 si/do muffler, 4.56 gears with detroit tru trac in the back, H/O cams, Race ported heads, SCT or dyno tuned, 4 or 7 in lift, and either 35x13.5 FCII's or 37x14.5 Toyo Mt's on it. Those are my planned performance additions and now I have stumbled onto another one. My friend, who drag races his 1000HP mustang on the weekend, is willing to sell and install a supercharger onto my ram for $1400 dollars. I have always been a bolt-on type of guy, but this raised and eyebrown for me. What would be the pro's and con's of a supercharger with the planed mods that I am going to do, before i say "I do"? Would it hurt me in terms of gas milage, or torque, or significantly cut engine life?

It would be impressive stacked with all those other mods. Imagine blowing the doors off a rice burner with a QCSB 4x4 truck that has 35x13.5 or 37x14.6 tires on it. lol With all of those mods and a tq converter I would have that 4.7 really humming. More than double the original HP and TQ without a doubt. What mods do I need, in addition to what i am planning to do, to run a supercharger?

If the guy really knows what he is doing I would go for it. I think you will need the extra power that a supercharger will give you with all of your planned mods. It will put some extra stress on the engine, but so will putting 37's on the truck. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Yeah he is a really good gear head. He has a 97 mustang with a 4.6 that puts out 800+ RWHP. I asked him what was stock and he said I think the windshield wipers. He has put 40k in mods in it and has done everything himself. I will be doing most the other mods on my own because I am pretty good with that stuff, my future father in law and his brother's are x-mechanics, and good friends dad is the head mechanic for the city hall in the local town. He has so many tools! lol But I think it all would be awesome.

First off, that's alot of Lute in mods you stacked up in your post! As far as the supercharger, a 4.6L supercharger won't work for your truck. Are we talking about a centrifugal or a twin screw? Kennebell, Vortech or Procharger? Centri's that are put on Ford mod motors are RR which means reverse rotation. They are installed backwards from the usual propeller style. If he is pushing 800+ to the wheels then he must have a Vortech YJ trim or if it's a KB twinscrew is gotta be atleast a 2.6L big bore with a 18# pulley to provide that much power. First find out what he has. Whatever it is, it's still going to require many additional parts like mounting bracket, a complete Tuner kit, injectors, tune, fuel pump, T-rex pump...etc.

Anyhow, any type of supercharger or turbo charger is going to yeild better MPG's at cruising speeds and eat up much more when your into the throttle. MPG's on the highway can improve as much at 5mpg!

Well I don't have alot of details on it. I don't think that it is engine specific though. And I know that I would need other parts as well. And that list will probably end up at 10K or so. It will be a work over time though. Probably across 3 years to get it all done. The only problem is that I am in town quite a bit and don't really drive on the highway that much. It would be a nice kick to the engine though.

4.6 supercharger will too work for you truck as long as you get the 4.7L "ALUMINUM" SINGLE PLANE INTAKE MANIFOLD. You should be good. I say do it.

Hey OE... Would you mind telling me where you found those cab lights on top of your truck and how hard they were to install. Don't you have 2 lights in your grill as well? And this supercharger seems like a great idea but going with a single plane manifold would drive my cost up even more. lol And what nerf bars do you have?

I got recon cab lights from gorecon.com we have a group code that gets you a discount the code is dodgeforum

and the lights behind the grill are KC's easy to install. Just drill into the front cross member and run some basic wiring. And the nerf bars are westin bullet
