Thumbs up

systems sound different on different makes and models,, what may sound nasty on a 5.0 mustang, may sound not so good on a 5.7 camaro,, etc.etc. what sounds nasty or good on the f-150 tritan motor, may sound drony on a silverado... like many said in past posts, depends on individual tastes.... i've always been a flowmaster fan, but didn't use on my corvette, due to flow issues..... soooooooo.....
anyway whats the price diff, in the magnaflow duals, and the flowmaster duals, for the 5.7 hemis./.??? i've seen the super 40 system hovering around $550,, anybody have a good price source or vendor to compare.?

The whole Aluminized steel thing would just cause me to run in the other direction. AHHHH, it's mild steel that will rust out in a few years!!!

I was soley looking for Stainless steel when I bought my catback! I wouldn't buy anything else. Ofcourse a 409 stainless will show some pitting rust marks, but it will never fully rust through. 304 stainless is the choice of preference! It has far less amounts of mild steel in the metal than even 409, but 409 would be absolute minimum I would demand for in any type of exhaust. Never should you buy mild steel. it's like throwing money on the street and waiting for people to just walk by and pick it up! I'm talkin about the rust.
I think flowmaster has a mufler series that's stainless, but i remember them being wickedly overpriced???Anyone care to share that info?
Is this where I show my pic?

I dunno man my truck has had that exhaust setup for 8 years now with the aluminzed steel and the only rust on it is around the welds and we are talking just specks of rust.
My truck is a work truck, damn thing has about as many off road miles as it does on road miles. Never had a problem with flowmaster's mufflers rusting.

And btw when you are looking at the flow of a muffler most people tend to think in terms of how a liquid or a solid would pass through the chambers. However, Its gas that is flowing through it. Gas molecules don't adhere to the same physics that a solid or liquid does.
The flow is based on pressure.
Flow masters might not have as good of flow as magna, but you always want to keep some back pressure with the exhaust.

Through experience dual exhausts with a crossover pipe are quieter then singles. Something to do with two smaller pulses at the tail pipe are quiter then one large pulse.
Magnaflow
get a 22" or 24" single in/out 3" muffler, put that on in place of stock muffler, done. Muffler will cost you about $130 on ebay, $50-$60 at an exhaust shop to weld it and a straight pipe on.

honestly, i don't understand why any one would ever go for a flowmaster over a magnaflow (or other good brands) unless you REALLY REALLY like the sound that much better. you can get loud ones (shorter mufflers), quiet ones (longer), and they are all stainless. i got a pic of my muffler somewhere, can see straight through it from inlet to outlset, flowmaster can't touch that.

Testing has proven that Magnaflow outflows Flowmaster by about double. 200cfm vs 400cfm. I have Magnaflows on my Mustang. The definitely flow better and make more power than the 40 series 2 chamber Flowmasters.
I had a 40 series SI/DO on my 01 F150. After 4 years, the muffler was rusted thru and one tailpipe outlet had rotted off. I installed a Magnaflow after that and never looked back.
Stainless will last a lifetime.

Yeah, I just checked out Flowmaster site and they have those "Frequently Asked questions". One of the topics is flow from a flowbench. Flowmaster won't even discuss the actual flow because it's so bad. They make up some bullcrap story instead!
Flowmaster spends all their time on toning frequencies and not flow numbers. Granted flow isn't everything, but it's a big part of it.
