Default engine light stays on??

The check engine light on my 04 ram hemi came on today. When I ran the code test in the odometer section I received c 00 00. I researched the code C0000 on the net, I found out that it has some thing to do with Vehicle Speed Information Circuit Malfunction??? What does this mean, and how do I fix it.

Probably a bad speed sensor in the rearend. Take it by AutoZone and get a free scan for the code to verify.

Woody,

Did you get your problem figured out? I seem to have the same with my 04. I'd love to keep the service guy away if at all possible.

I checked on the sensor at Advance auto, it's about $25. Doesn't look like it would be too hard to replace.

Merc,
I was able to find out what was going on. My dad was the original owner of the truck. Apparently, the truck did this at 50 000 or so miles?? He had it checked out, and nothing was wrong with it?? They turned off the engine light and it did not appear untill 100 000 miles. I had my uncle who is a licence mech check the sensor and wires for connectivity etc.. Everything seems to be fine?? So, I turned off the light, AND it's still not come on. I guess it's some kind of default/chassis code possibily??? It would not surpirse me, to say the least(SCARE CODE). I would recommed though, the same process if at all possible. I do have some auto knowledge, if help is needed on your truck(on a refenece basis).

Also, I've notice a very common glitch in our 04 ram. "THE BLOWER FAN". I don't if you had this problem this in the past or hopefully not in the future. But, if you notice at any time that your blower will not work. Try moving your tilt steering(if you have it) up and down. You might notice that the blower will come on and off. If this is the case, You may have an issue with your Ignition switch wire. The connection is loose(ground, I beleive) that powers the blower.

If you get a CEL, always try to clear it first. It's not rare that a sensor can have a "brain fart". If the problem persists, the CEL will return and it's time to start troubleshooting. If it stays off - you fixed it for free!!!

since it's happened twice at the 50k mile interval, maybe it's a "service engine" light to tell you to get a regular checkup? I have never seen it but otherwise it seems odd to have them at the almost exact interval.

Default Update:

Here we are 6+ months after I had my first light come on... To kind of fill in the blanks of my story, I had my light come on over winter (I'm in Wisconsin). It went off for a week or so, then came back on again. I checked the code, still the same thing, so I was getting ready to go to the local parts store to pick up a new sensor. Before I had time to get the part, I put it through the carwash, the light went off, and didn't come on again. I figured that there was just some dirt or ice built up and the under-flush of the carwash cleaned it out.

I had honestly forgot all about the problem, considering the light never came on again, until yesterday when I got in it to load the boat back on the trailer. I checked the code once I got back to the cabin, but couldn't remember what number the error came up as last time the light came on. So I had to wait until I got back to civilization to look it up.

Given it's the same code again (C0000) and the weather is a little nicer here this time of year, I guess I should crawl under there and see if it's got good connection. At this point, I'm thinking if I don't find a dirty connection, I'll just replace the speed sensor in the rearend, and hope it's good. I really don't want to have to deal with it again this winter.

I'll post my findings.

Thanks for the replies,

I forgot to mention in my post that I'm not even to 40K miles yet, my truck is on it's 36K to 39K oil change, somewhere on the low end of it. Although I do think that they do build some of those "scare codes" into the system just so that a guy will bring it in and they can "sell you more services".
