Default Factory radio with satellite

Hey folks,

I own a '06 2500, 6speed with the 5.9L cummins with the Big Horn package.
The factory radio has the satellite option, and I would like to use it. How do I get/subscribe the service for it? Does it communicate with services like XM or Sirus? Any info would be great ...

Thanks all,

-graham

When I bought my 08, it came with a year of Sirius, which is the service that Dodge offers. I had to go to the owners manual and press a few buttons on the radio to get a code (cant remember which part it was in), then call Sirius and give them the code that the radio told me. After that it was just a few questions, and 2 minutes later my Satellite radio was working.

hope that helps

On mine, if you try to access the sat radio function, it gives you the Sirius phone number, I have little doubt they can talk you through whatever else you need to do. Mine also came with one year free, but I never renewed it.

Thanks for the info. Well, when I hit the 'mode' button to go over to SAT, all it displays is P11 184. I know the P11 is the preset, but that's it. I cant change any of the channels or get it to display anything else. I was hoping that it would auto-tune to a precorded loop on how to access/signup for the service. But that would be too easy.

I will look through the owners manual again and see if I can get it to display any other codes/info. But if I recall, the information in the manual was very dismal.

Thanks!

The owners manuel has the # to call sirus radio and subscribe. Way in the back. Ask about the life time membership. My friend called to re-up and the price for lifetime was the equivilent to 3 years subscription. $350 or something like that. Will be doing that myself as soon as i have time to call.

Don't forget about the initial start-up fee. I think it's like $20 or something. Also, I think it's $12.50 per month for the service???

They will try and sell you a 6month or 1 year subscription. I wanted 1months worth and they billed my CC for 6months. Bastards. I had to call them back and get a refund. ANyways, I would just do 1 month and make sure you like it. I didn't care much for it. One thing I didn't like with the factory radio was that the stations take forever to change and start producing sound. From lets say channel 23 to 24, it would take atleast 5 solid seconds before there was any sound. I didn't like that. Anyways, I recieved 1yr free when I bought my truck. I removed the radio and put in an aftermarket without satellite and don't miss it al all, but I live near a city so there are a number of channels to listen to.

Thanks everyone for replying. I called Sirius and go the low-down. $15/setup and $12.95/month for the service. I think I am going to try it out for a few months.

Its not bad. The only thing I dont like is the stock radio that I have does not show the song and/or artist info. My wifes 08 GMC came with XM and her stock radio shows all of that. Otherwise, I'm totally happy with it
