Default 08 Not starting correctly.

Im posting this up for my friend. His truck doesn't always start correctly. It happens at random times but always acts the same when it does act up. 95% of the time it starts right, but there have been times where he pushes the remote start and it goes crank-crank-crank-crank-crank-crank-fire. It seems almost twice the length of the normal crank crank crack fire. It has only ever happened when he used the remote start, but today when I was there with him he went to start his truck with the key and it did the "long" start. What would cause it to start right all the other times, but not a few others?

Truck is a loaded 08 1500

Hard starting could be anything from a bad plug, coil wire, cam sensor, TPS, etc.

It's an '08, can you say "Lifetime Warranty"???

Haha, yeah but its a pita when it doesn't do it all the time. Knowing our luck we'll run out there and they will say everything is ok and won't be able to replicate the problem. Didn't know if it was common over here in the 3rd gen section since im always in the 2nd gen. Thanks for the help!

Does it only do it after it has sat for more than a few hours?

it could be cam or cam sensor.. I had this happen to me when i had the truck for few weeks. It would crank long amount of time then it would fire up.

He started the truck up this morning and went to turkey hill. shut the truck off. Came back out started the truck. Drove back home. I called him up and we both have been meaning to wash all of the salt off our trucks for the past few days so today we both drove out to the car wash and washed em. So truck started up fine to go out of his driveway to get to the carwash. The truck sat for... um... I didnt really keep track but 30 minutes tops. Went to start it and crank crank crank crank crank crank fire. I highly doubt it was because we washed em because it has done it other times in dry conditions. He moved it out of the bay after it started next to mine so we could dry the trucks off. Then he started it back up to leave and no problems again. Just an intermitant thing.

Oh, and he is going to take it to the dealer next week sometime I guess for those who mentioned it. It is under warrenty, but was hoping he would have an idea of what it was before he walked in there. Thanks guys for your help!

My only thought is fuel pressure. But that is usually just an issue if it sits for a while.

If you can turn the key to the on position for 5 seconds, back off. Then try starting and it starts good everytime then it is a fuel pressure problem.

Mine does the same thing :-/. I bought it brand new Nov. 1st. Since then, i've had my tire pressure gauge come on twice, now the oil change alert is on (2,500 miles) all on top of the slow starting issue. Just like your friends, mine only happens about 10% of the time. Im taking it to the dealership on Friday. I have a feeling the dealer is going to say "It's fine what are you talking about?" UGH! ... If there's any new revelations, i'll keep you posted.

Shandy, the oil change indicator is normal at 2500 miles, and the TPMS light is probably on because it's getting colder out and the pressure drops with temperature. Mine has done it too... Just check the pressure (and don't forget the spare).
