There have been big debates on various Dodge forums virtually since they came out with the '06 models. It seems to go 50/50 with the guys who have it and about 90/10 with the guys who don't. There are some idiots with '02-'05s who think they are gonna see Honda Civic mpg's with a Hemi truck with MDS, I guess.
Personally, I wouldn't want it. I toyed with the idea of getting an '06 in the early spring of '06. I had just paid off my '04 and debated on either starting to mod the '04 or get an '06. Probably the biggest factor in my decision to keep the '04 and start working on it was the fact it was 100% paid for, but a major decision was that I had no desire to have MDS. If I paid for 8 cylinders, I want my 8 cylinders all the time, thank you very much!
In hindsight, I should have gotten an '06 2500, but that's a topic for an IFS debate!

My Ram is the first truck i've ever drove/owned, so maybe i don't really notice what the mds does. I should go buy a predator, turn it off, and go drive around. Then i might understand why you guys disabled it better. I would go buy one right now, but i want my Carbon Fiber Ramhammer.

It's a night and day difference...i'd personally get a tuner over a intake if you have that option. The gains from a handheld far out weigh any a intake will give you.

In my 08, at speeds much above 55mph, it will not stay engaged. In and out. And since the speed limits on my work trips are 65 and 70, it rarely activates anyway.
I got the same 15.5mpg running with MDS and running in Tow haul mode.
When the MDS kicks in, the torque converter lock up clutch releases somewhat which is where the 300rpm gain comes from in OD. I would think that that slippage of the lock-up clutch cant be good for the transmission.
Around town and 55mph or less it works great. I heard it is more agressive in the 09's due to them having VVT and a dual runner intake which makes more low end torque.

I hate mds It never really bothered me before I put my exhaust on but you don't know how much it kicks in till you get exhaust it makes your truck lag so bad. As soon as I get the funds I'm deff going to buy a predator to delete it.

I'm looking into disabling the MDS on my truck. Is the predator the cheapest way to do it? I've never used something like that. Is it pretty easy to use or will I mess something up. Are there more benifits to using a predator other than disabling the MDS system. I will do a little more research myself. Also is it something that plugs in and stays in or do you plug it in do your thing then unplug it and put it away? Thanks for the help guys.
