Default 4.56 gears

I plan on getting 4.56 gears real soon. My question is, my truck is 4wd, do I need to do both front and rear at the same time? Or can I do the rear first and then do the front later? I may not have 4wd available until both are done. Right??? Also, is the front axle 8"? Another thing, are all 9.25" Chrysler rear axles 29 spline?

No, the rear should be 9.25", 12 bolt, 31 Spline if memory serves. Double check me though, Randy's Ring & Pinion should have the info on their site. I'd check for you, but I'm lazy and 97.4% sure I'm right.
Front is 8", 10 bolt.

Do yourself a favor and save up till you can do both at the same time. Technically, if you don't use 4WD you could do just the rear, but if you forget, or accidently bump it in 4WD, you'll have to send the flatbed back to get your diffs, transfer case and drive shafts off the road...

Yeup... what he said... and we had a customer who have let somone use his truck after installing 4.56's in the rear only... and he toasted the front ring and pinion.

SPEED SAFE, AIR RAM

You are only .4% more sure than myself....LMAO.

I would just save and wait because there's always something that will come along and push the front gear change off and off. Then it will suck not having 4x4 in a 4wd truck. Your better off having higher gears and the ability of using 4wd than jumping on a gear swap and only using 2wd.

+1 Save for both, it is not worth the trouble of what could happen!

I know how it is when you can't afford it all at once. Yes, you can go ahead and do it, but I would pull the front drive shaft. That way there is no chance of damage, and you can have the front done at your convenience.

Just food for thought DodgeIt, if there is a 4 Wheel Parts near you, most of their service centers have someone on staff that only does that kind of work. The Orlando store did a fantastic job on my gears & LSD. Very professional, even schedule a 500 mile check up and fluid change after break in, included in the cost of the original install.
They offer their own credit card and major purchases (I think anything over $299) are eligible for a "same as cash" deal that lets you pay it off over a year with no interest.
Just something to chew on...

Correct, it is a "GE Car Care One" card. It is good at 4wheel parts, Discount tire and I think exxon gas stations?? I got one when I bought my tires and wheels and any purchase over $1000 was interest free for a year. I think that $299 was interest free for 90 days, $??? free interest for 6 months..... so it depends on how much you spend for the time period of free interest. I also used it for my gears and Detroit Tru Trac. Paid them off within a year and got it all interest free! Can't beat that!
