Cool Mobil 1 Extended Performance?

Is anybody using Mobil 1 Extended Performance? I change my oil almost twice a month using just their fully synthetic. The thought crossed my mind when I picked up a new oil filter yesterday. I used to use a Fram, but after my buddy showed me what the inside of one looked like I decided to find a new brand. All the shop had was one of the Extended Performance filters and it got me to thinking. I'm kind of wary about it because I change every 3,000 miles now. Can you really go 15,000 miles on the stuff and how long can you use the filters? Most importantly though has anyone had any problems with it? Thanks.

if it where me i would change it every 3000 miles and not try and go 15,000.00 oil and filters to me are cheaper then parts and labor for motor work. just my 2 cents though

Tests have shown that the better full synthetics can last for a very long time, provided they are not subjected to any extremes such as heat and dirty/dusty conditions.
However, it's the filter that would be cause for concern during long intervals.
Amsoil was exposed not long ago when they claimed 20k mile+ life out of it's synthetic. It later came out that they changed the filter every 3k and topped off any lost oil.

I used to use Mobil 1 exclusively, changed every 3k with a good solid filter like Mobil 1, Wix or Purolator. Within the past year or so, I decided to try Royal Purple after reading reports over the last few years on it. It seems that RP & Amsoil are arguably on a top tier by themselves and then come the Mobil 1, Valvoline Pure Synthetic and a few others. The kicker was that my local auto parts store had a buy 1, get 1 on RP in the 10w/30 & 10w/40 weights only (seems with all the newer engines calling for 5w/30 & 5w/20, the heavier weights were not moving as well). My GC calls for 10w/30.
I was very pleased with the RP and how it performed in my Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.7 H.O. engine. An immediate gain of about 1.5-2 mpg over the Mobil 1 and the engine idled/ran noticeably smoother. Another plus was that when I changed the oil, it was a LOT cleaner than the Mobil 1 had been. So I decided to change my interval to every 6k. This also helps me to justify the added cost of the RP.
I'm now doing the exact same thing in my Hemi truck, although I've not really noticed a measurable mpg gain, the engine is also running smoother and the "Hemi Tick", although still present, is noticeably quieter.

With me having the GC and the truck, the 6k intervals last me about 6 months in the Jeep and about 9 months in the truck. It looks as though you put a lot of miles on your truck. I'd say use the Extended Performance or RP or Amsoil with a good quality filter, personally the Wix (NAPA Gold) is my favorite, but I've used the Mobil 1 and Purolator also. K&N also routinely gets good reviews. But go to 6k or about once a month for you as opposed to every two weeks. Take a good look at the oil when you drain it, or better yet, have the used oil tested. Then formulate an opinion on how long you can go. Although I'd not leave a filter in for more than 6k, it's possible you may be able to go 12k with no measurable oil breakdown and just having to change the filter and top the oil off every 6k, saving you some $ and a little time...

My manual states oil changes every 6000 miles, if I use synthetics that can go to 12000. I think 3000 with fully synthetic is a bit of over kill, BUT it is your truck AND you can change your oil every day if you like.
A car collector I know NEVER changes his oil...never, he changes his oil filter every 5000 miles but he has never pulled the drain plug on any of his cars. When I was 17 ( oh to be 17 again) my best friend bought a Toyota Carola SR5, 5 speed standard ( he did not know how to drive a stick shift) he put 45,000 miles on it before his FIRST oil change.

I have had a lot of cars, bikes and trucks and as a volunteer firefighter I have had many 3:00 am alarms with the temps at -20* so the car or truck is wot with no warm up, the only oil related failure I ever had was my own fault, I had not checked my oil in quite some time and on a long up hill run, I was passing a ford truck when he sped up, well I opened the 2000 ram sport and 30 seconds later the check gauges light came on and the oil pressure had bottomed out. I stopped and added 3 quarts of oil, the front bearing had failed. This was lack of oil only.
How many people have lost an engine due to 10,000 mile oil changes ...20,000 mile.....30,000....

Looks like used motor oil. I can't say it looks any different than any other motor oil that I changed at different intervals. I've put faith in the company that they have tested this stuff and it's not just total bs. I'm not saying later down the road you might not get a **** Mobil 1 post, but for know it works fine. I'm also not really doing anything extreme with my vehicles. I plan on having them for the long haul so I hope it works out.
