results of "switching back"
if you remeber, about 2 weeks ago I decided to switch back to the stock air intake setup through the winter in hopes of maybe gaining some MPGs since it seems like -5 to 20 degree temps was sucking the gas quicker.
well.... as far as MPGs go, i just went by how much and how often I had to put gas in, I didnt write down milage and calculate it or even look at the lie-ometer, but I do feel that I was using slightly less gas.
With the CAI it got so bad that I was using closer to a quarter of a tank to go into town and back (about 33 miles) thats why I tryed switching back. With the stock setup I KNOW that it wasnt using that much, closer to an 1/8 of a tank.
Do not go by what I say, you can try it yourself or not, its up to you.
I DID NOTICE FOR A FACT that the truck would warm up to operating temp quicker. Even the wife could notice that. Its a nice benifit when its 0 degrees out to get heat quicker, and im not talking about feeling the heat, im talking even the temp gauge getting up to normal (about half on the gauge) quicker.
So take this however you want, just letting you guys know my results.

I have thought about doing the same thing. i mean it is just like drag racing you adjust to the track, humidity and anything you you can. But I have never had a reason to put it back on but I think i will dig it out of storage and put it back on just to see cause I have a 108 mile trip from work and back evevryday. maybe it sill help?
just put my stock air intake assembly back on yesterday cause of the winter stuff (snow, slush, salt, etc.) could get sucked in where the CAI was located. behind and just below the passenger headlight.
before i put it back on i took off the "hat" and looked at the giant butterfly and noticed that there is some buildup in the throat from what i assume is dust and what not. yikes!!!
anyway afterwords i took it out for a run and ran a 15.81 1/4 mile. before my best was 16.30. i have a gtech performance meter. not official but...
mostly though i put it back on for piece of mind not sucking loads of crap in the winter season.

i like that. i am planning on keeping my stock in. i did have a guy stop by the other day and said his brother had a K&N from an 04 hemi that he would sell me for $50. if he comes through ill go with that. otherwise im too cheap to spend the money on a good one...for now anyway.
