You can turn the 02 sensors off with a handheld programmer. I have that done for my Cobra. There are only the front sensors left on that car at the bottom of the LT's. It's been on a dyno so I could even get away with removing those since the fuel trims and special programming will never change!

Noticeable loss on low end. Absolutely not. Small difference yes. Any time you free up backpressure you will lose some low end torque. You have a better shot at losing more low end torque with a catback than actually removing the cats themselves.

As for inspection, even the states that don't currently have emissions inspection. Watch out for the big dogs. Federal Gov't is going to be issuing a certain litmitations on every state. It's gonna be mandatory by the end of '09 especially with the new President

Thanks for the replies guys. Where i live im not too worried about being caught without a cat, and my truck wont even require inspection until 2012. From the sounds of it running without the cat may be more trouble than its worth. I may just replace the one i have, because guaranteed at 7 years old its far from efficient. Anyone run just a cat and then straight pipe/no muff on the 4.7? Just seeing what my options are here. I cant justify 500 bucks for a fancy muffler that says "MAGNAFLOW" and some pipe when i can do it my self for half that...

Can't delete posts even when double posted.
No muffler, straight pipe sounds good on some vehicles and not on others. I ran my 4.8L chevy with a straight pipe for the entire 4yrs I owned it. It was loud yet still clean when coasting down a hill.

Do it man. It's the cheapest muffler one could hope for. I first put in a Cherry Bomb but it was super quiet??? Then I just straight piped it.

It is going to smell bad and you will reek of hydrocarbons without cats.
