Default Catylitic converter...do i need it?

Yup, another silly exhaust question. Im gonna build a cat-back on my 02' 4.7 ram this spring. Just wondering if this engine really needs a cat or if it will run better without it. I know some engines run much better with the additional back-pressure created by cats. Not sure what muff im goin with yet. Also, what pipe diameter are most of the cat-back kits out there? Thanks.

I believe there are also oxygen sensors in the cat that the engine needs.

"I believe there are also oxygen sensors in the cat that the engine needs"

There not in the cat itself, before and after to be exact

You can run no cat but you will have to get a o2 sim for the rear sensor, so you wont throw a check engine light. the rear o2 just tells the pcm that the cat is working

Watch you don't get caught running no cats. Pretty sure that is illegal just about everywhere anymore.

You will get a Check engine light if you remove them the 02 sensor after will detect it. the mild performance gain is not that significant. How many Cats does your truck have? if 3 make your new exhaust replacable before the third one, that way you can swap back and not get the engine codes. I think

Yeah, it's illegal, which in some areas where you don't have inspections you'll probably be alright.

But hey, as if driving a 12 MPG truck wasn't bad enough, why don't you just go ahead and throw all those pollutants into the air?

Matter of fact, you should put your trash in the bed of your truck too, so it can blow out while you are driving, that way you won't have to pay for trash pickup.

Default what gains?

is there any gain in power if you remove the cat?
This depend on what enginge you have- i think!!!
so with my 5.9L engine, do I realy gain any power or MPG?
maybe it is only sound that is the real gain

All legal reasons aside, running with no cats on the 4.7 will cost you a noticeable amount of low end torque. Although if you are determined to run with no cats, simply gut them and put O2 simms on so you'll pass inspection.

making any modifications to the cat converter is illegal, I know a few people who have their cats gutted so they have to be careful and you definitely need the cat for emissions
