The 6.1 and 5.7 blocks may have the same architecture, but the 6.1 block is much much stronger. That's why these insane displacements (392, 426, 440) are based off of this block. It has the potential to be a monster, but in typical mopar style, they won't do it.

Heres what you do. Get the 6.1, either buy the parts to stroke it or send it to Indy Cylinder Heads. Get 426 stroker, and the other stuff they do to it. Drop in 565hp and never think twice about it! Im assuming you have an auto. If its the 545, get rid of it. Last I knew they simply dont hold power, and because of lack of strength, overdrive is useless. Use any of that power in OD and youll blow it. Ive looked into it, but its been awhile. So Id get a built 48re, use an adapter plate and probably custom TC, and use it. Youd have to figure out the electronics though. Youd still have all gears, and theyll hold up to more than enough power. Diesels make more torque than a gasser ever will and these trannys keep coming back for more. A 1300hp diesel is well over 2000 ft/lbs torque...at the tires.

Actually, forget the 6.1 and drop in a Cummins!!

Talk to Sheradon Performance, they got one of the first 392 crate engines and dropped it into a Rumble Bee. They posted a video of it roasting the tires down a driveway. They took it to a meet and ripped off sub-12's with it.

selling it for alot too. awd 6.1 srt-8 ram. not bad not bad. im sure that thing moves. hopefully they whoudl have built that motor up nice instead of just dropping a stock 6.1 into it.

I've thought about boring out my truck to be a bigger size, but how expensive would doing that be in comparison to getting an engine that has less miles and more life left in it?
If you bore it out you will have to replace your pistons and rings, and may as well micropolish your crank and replace you rod and main bearings making it a zero mileage bottom end...

Or get a stroker kit...if they sell them for the hemi. Strokers take a little longer to spin up but they're torque monsters.
