We i turn my heat on this fan starts, it makes allot of ugly noises! what is this fan for? also there is a plug on the motor, can i just unplug it? will it mess anything up if i do, i just dropped $1500 into the front end, and i dont want to spend anymore money right now, i just need to use the truck alittle longer! thanks jeff

It might throw a code... seems like "everything" throws a code, now.

Is the fan running in heat-only, or in defrost? Defrost actually uses the A/C system to remove moisture from the air (supposedly, per the owner manual). If the fan is running in heat-only, there is probably some other issue going on.

Noise could be internal to the fan motor, or the fan blades touching, or you could even be hearing noise from the A/C compressor.

I don't think there would be any problem with disconnecting the fan other than the possible error code being generated or maybe some trouble using the defroster/defogger. Make sure it's actually the fan making the noise, though.

im sure its the fan motor, because went it turns on you hear a loud squeel, then once warm sometimes it will not make any noise, then when you shut the truck off you can hear it making noise till the blade stops moving. could be the blad hung up, when it warms up, i will check it out and report back! but for now that b*tch is getting unplugged! thanks for all the info guys!!!

It should only run if the a/c button is pushed or if you have the **** turned anywhere to the right past the floor symbol. It should be ok when it's real cold as long as you don't idle for long periods if the compressor is running. With no airflow thru the condenser, the head pressure can get too high and blow the freon out of a pop-off valve.
If the temps stay below 35 degrees, you should be ok for awhile.

Fan motor shows to be about $95 at Autozone.

My fan bearings went two years ago while I was out plowing. After I unplugged it the A/C lines froze up and I lost all of my heat as well. That could be because I run the defrost all the time while plowing. The new fan was of an updated design with a different plug, but they give you an adaptor with it. It seems the '03s had a lot of "one year only" problem parts.

Yeah, that's what what I meant about the **** being anywhere to the right of Floor only. This will activate the compressor circuit and condenser fan to remove the humidity and defog the windows better.
You may check your local Dodge dealer. The price may be close figuring in shipping.
