Default 4wd problem

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. Yesterday my ervice 4wd drive light came on. I have the electronic shift 4wd and when I put it in 4wd the light just flashes and when I shut off the engine in 4wd and start it again the light stays on. When I take it out of 4wd and put it back in the service 4wd light flashes a couple times and then the 4wd drive light goes back to flashing. Even though the light flashes it is still in 4wd. I'm not use to all this new electronic stuff. The last Dodge I had was a 2002 and had the 4wd shifter on the floor. Any ideas and any help would be GREAT....thanks.

get it scanned for DTC codes, I'm unfamiliar with the auto 4x4 setup, but with the codes someone here can most likely help

I just had the oil changed and the diffs are bad but the t-case is good. While they changed the oil I scanned it with the scan tool and it came up no codes. What throws me is that I started it this morning and the service 4wd light came on and stayed on. So I got to where I was goin and shut it off. It sat for about a hour and I started it back up and the light flashed a couple times then went off. I tried to put it in 4wd and it engaged but the 4wd light flashed. All this new computerized stuff sucks....

Well I just talked to the dealership and they said it was a front driveshaft disconnect accuator or something like that and of course the lifetime warrenty doesn't cover it cause it's a electrical part. I just don't understand how a newer pickup with 42,000 on it can start breaking parts like that. anyway does anybody know where this part is located and how hard it is to replace it? If anyone does let me know. thanks

It doesn't look difficult at all to replace from the service manual. 2 - 3 hours at the most I am guessing. As far as pricing goes, you would have to call around, depends on where you get it from.

A quick search of autozones sight shows $140 with core, If its the same part (No picture).

**Edit, Now that I think about it, When I was doing research for my ram I thought I saw a glimpse of a TSB regarding this problem, But I may be wrong as it was a while ago.

when you service 4wd light comes on it has nothing to do with the condition of your fulid . it means there is a problem with the system. Just as when you oil change light comes on and you change the oil and dont reset the light it will still say change oil. But when you put in anything other than 10w20 in you hemi it will set a code and not turn on a light (go figure)
