Tires
For those with the Terra Grapplers, what is the most driving that you do with your truck? Off-road mostly or street driving? In my truck, I mostly drive around the city. I don't hardly take back country roads anymore, as I don't work on the farm that often anymore. In my truck I'm mostly going for looks with some functionality. We get snow and ice here normally, and I like to be able to grip in it. I would also eventually like to get my truck to be some sort of a show type truck. Not like some of the fancy ones that you see, but to look pretty sweet.
I would say jusy do it, I've got the Nitto Terra Graplers 275 65 R20 on my 07' with app. 5600 miles on them and have not had any problems at all. They hug the snow and wet roads verry good. About six weeks ago we got around 20" or snow in Salt Lake n' the tires just went like there was no tomorrow. In the mud they do very well also. I had mud half way up the wheels and they just dug in and pulle right through. SOOO JUST DO IT!! LOL
Unless you have $20k to play with, your truck will appear the same as everyone else's. Now, with you being a pavement queen, save your money and buy something practical. Getting the Nito's for over $100 per tire compared to the Coopers is just ridiculous. They wear super fast and why, cause they look cool? So don't the Coopers. Now, For what you are going to be using your truck for, the Coopers will be more than enough. They also have a 520treadwear rating. Only time will tell for everyone that has bought them to see how far they really can go. I think saving as much money as possible on tire's is the smartest thing alive. They are grossly expensive and why get more than what you need or pay too much for something over rated. I think BFG's are overpriced and over rated and Nitto's just don't last for the price you are paying! Just my .02
ha, i second that. if your not worried about saving money with the coopers, than go with em. im mostly city too. they handle great, and grip in the rain. and i drive a little harder than most people. and like i said the other day we got snow here, so i got to drive in the snow, and in the ice after the snow was not plowed and just compacted. they've been great. and look great too.
you can find the nittos for alot cheaper than you think. i had the choice between nittos and toyos. the nittos were $5 cheaper per tire than the toyos. dont let these tire places screw you. they WILL budge with the way the economy is. I spent an hour and a half haggling town fair tire and talked them down from $1280 for 4 toyos installed down to under $1000 and got them to kick in the 4 wheel alignment and warranty. i chose the toyos only because they didnt have the nittos in stock and would have had to order them in. so im telling you SHOP AROUND and dont just take teh first price that sounds ok.
with that said the coopers do have a similar tread pattern as the toyos and the nittos and are very much so comparable. so if you can get a really good deal on those jump on it. google the nittos/toyos/coopers youll see the treads are all just as aggressive for a at tire. you wont notice a huge difference in looks department. the most aggressive looking tread for an at tire is still the mt baja atz cannot beat that look.
