I think I may have an odd/rare truck...?
Ok, I am new to the dodge truck world, but not the automotive world. For my age I like to brag that I am quite bright when it comes to vehicles. Heck I have rebuilt engines, installed big suspension lifts, installed clutches, and im now recently learning how to do gears. Anyways, long story short...lol...As i am learning about dodge trucks,
i noticed my 06' 1500 has a heavy duty badge on the rear, my truck sits noticeably higher than every other stock 1500 I have come across, has tow mirrors(i know you can get them on any 1500) and a 6-speed manual on the 5.7L engine. Ok, so i have been looking around online and noticed that I can not find any other 1500 with this set-up. Also, i found that Dodge does not make a 1500 Heavy Duty. What the heck is going on here? can you build any 1500 like this special order? does dodge make the 1500 HD? do i have increased spring rates or something that makes my truck higher? there is no lift kit on it. ???????

Just a thought
As stated, you don't have a rare truck. Think about this, what are the odds of you ending up with a one of a kind truck? It would've gone to some magazine to test out the truck and compare the new features to existing models. Also, I could remove my 1 on the sides, and slap a 4 on there. Does that mean I have a 4500 quadcab shortbed with a 1500 frame? No, it just means that I removed my 1 and replaced it with a 4. Or like how someone can just purchase a Big Horn badge for their vehicles, and... well, the badge pretty much is all that makes those trucks that, but it still didn't come from the factory with that.
wow geeze guys i dont think you need to be so rude and if you dont mean to be thats sure how your coming off all the guy did was ask a simple question and now your all bustin his ***** trying to make him feel like an idiot as he said he's new to the dodge truck world so it only makes sense he might be curious if his truck appears to be different then his friends ram's
You don't wanna buy that Bighorn badge. That sucker cost me $85 on the window sticker! It does nothing for me. I would rather had the $85 in my pocket.
The days of custom-ordering your vehicle are long gone. You can pick option packages but you can't mix & match drivetrains. Otherwise don't you think we'd see a LOT more 6spd manuals in 1500 Hemi's?
I think it sounds like this truck is a 2500 re-badged to a 1500.

and btw, if he does have a 6spd on a hemi, then at least on this forum his truck IS a one of a kind. but it does seem odd. though dog is sayin it is possible, so who knows.
if it is indeed a 1500, it will be independent front suspension. take a look under the front end.
Wow people are getting a little hot in here... I think from the sounds of it people have figured it out though: Sounds like he has a 1500 that someone put a spacer in the front, an extra leaf in the back, had it shipped with a 6-speed tranny, and slapped an HD badge on it. I can't imagine why anyone would remove the 2500 and put a 1500 badge on, especially if they leave the HD badge. As xfeejayx says, the front suspension will be the giveaway. If it's IFS, it's a 1500. If you have a solid front axle, you have a 2500/3500.
That's weird. My sticker doesn't list a line item price for the Big Horn badge. It's just a line item with no price.

It's an IFS on the 1500 vs. a solid front axle on the 2500 as far as I know. If you have a straight solid axle, it's not a 1500. Megacabs excluded of course.
Here's the funny thing. How in the world can they say that a vehicle has a Base price of $33,280 and then in OPTIONAL equiptment charge you $1,170 for automatic transmission if indeed a manual is not possible to order???? Is it because the 4.7L is standard on the Rams and not the 5.7L and when you order the 5.7L the auto is standard?
I'm gonna go build a ram right now to end this BS.
Just tried, cannot get a manual trans even with the 4.7L. Also, it shows the Auto as being included in price so that means even with the base price going up $300, the 2009's are $870 cheaper than the 2008's.
