Another New guy with a new Toy
hey, since you say you know a lot about audio, what do you think is the best way to add some bass to our regular cab trucks. We all have the same amount of space behind the seat. Actually make it the cheapest
since i dont have a lot of cash. I just want to be able to feel the vibrations from the subs. my audio is stock right now and if your is too, then you know what its capable of.

Second what are your goals? (Do you want to just add bass or do you want to add all around sound?)
I too am planning a budget install. Here is what is on my list for now.
CD Player:
Eclipse CD3100 = $130

Wire Harness and Mounting Bracket:
Bracket and Antenna Adapter are free from crutchfield with purchase of radio. But a special wire harness is required: $35
Subs: (Two 12's)
Rockford Fosgate P1s412 = $120
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_575P1S4...12.html?tp=111
Amplifier:
Rockford Fosgate P300-1 = $150

Wiring:
4 Guage kit from Walmart (scoshe Brand I think) = $35 or $40
(Unless you are designing a SQL vehicle for Competion you will not notice a difference from generic RCA's to Monster Cables.)
Optional part for all around Sound improvement.
Front Door Speakers:
Rockford Fosgate P1694 6x9 = $70
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_575P169...694.html?tp=91
Box Building Materials:
4x8 sheet of MDF (never use partical board or osb board)
Screws
Wood Glue
ETC.
Total around = $50
Or buy a pre made: (may be too little of air space need by subs. Read)
http://cgi.ebay.com/02-08-Dodge-Ram-...3A1%7C294%3A50
Total build cost for me: $520 (already have Eclipse 6.5" Components for Doors)
Total Build Cost adding the 6x9's: $590
Recomendations:
1. When installing CD receiver do not hook up rear panel speakers if installing subs. They will no longer matter. (Unable to hear them from the Bass coming from that direction.)
2. Get a box Design that matches the subs specs. (get more bang for your buck.)
Why did you choose these specific products? Are there cheaper and better products or do you think these are the best value for the money? How much improvement will I be looking at? Should I also change my rear speakers? How good would the bass be, can I set off some car alarms-jk. If you do build the sub box, you should post a DIY on the forum.
what is so great about eclipse radios when compared to a pioneer or alpine. they look cheaper but is the quality the same or better?
look cheaper??? no way. quality is great and they do everything
Raminator, I don't think you want to be able to set off car alarms if you are in the truck, do you? That would really hurt my ears. I had a 12 inch polk momo sub in my old car with a 300 watt rockford amp, and I'm sure if I put that in my truck with the gains turned up my ears would explode.

i know the same feeling too. after my a while i get a headache and i worry about permanent ear damage

did you make cars next to you rattle with that?
Eclipse is one of the best stereo for sound quality and they have never made a cheap product. As for the subs i found them on sale. This was a budget install. The purpose of a stereo is to make you happy. What I have picked out will make me happy. But the louder you want it the more expensive it will get. When I was doing pro competition I had two 15" crossfire xtf's running a total of 4000 watts rms to them hitting around a 161db. at 150db it is enough to stop your heart. so during competitions I would to stand outside my car with a remote. But the system was around $10,000. So the sky is the limit. Decide how loud you want and decide how much you want to spend. I will help pick the equipment to get the best bang for the buck.
