Default 7.2 mpg hand calculated!!!

I just did hand calculated and i found out that i have been getting 7. 2 miles per gallon however that overhead said 15.3 mpg but i dont understand i have been getting that very low mpg because since i stopped driving so fast and all... I started to drive smarter and tried to be more efficiently... Did i do something wrong or anything? Any suggestion on how should i save gas... (i didnt buy this truck for gas but i bought it for more power and to show off everyone else, lol)

Thanks
Neal

Was the 15.3 average for the entire tank? Also the overhead "predicts the future" if you will by showing you how mamy miles per gallon you CAN get at the rate you are driving and not necessarily what you are currently getting. That's why the overhead is a general synopsis of mpg's.
If you reset it and sit idle in a parking lot, it will read like 8 or 9mpgs. When going down hill it can read up to 23/34mpg's.
I would say maybe you made an error on your calculation.
Did you maybe divide the total miles by 26gal? That's not correct. You need to divide the total miles completed for that tank by how much fuel you just put into the tank. Maybe only 22.6gals???? And not 26. My truck goes down to 1/4 and I fill it up. Generally it takes 21/22gal at that point. That's the number you use to find mpg.

Yea my math is right but anyway, the last tank i filled up was 16.9 gallons of tank at $1.899 for midgrade. The gas emptied after 121 miles. It seems to fast for the gas to out just like that even though the gas guage is moving slow to me... Is something wrong with my truck...

Wow, you got an issue somewhere. I've got 35s and weigh in at over 7k pounds with all my mods and still avg. about 15.5 on the interstate and between 12 & 13 consisitently in town and combination driving. Also, my overhead is rarely more than 2 mpg different from hand calculations over a full tank of gas.
Is it WAY past tune up time maybe???

Is it possible someone stole some of your gas?

Not possible. After 1987 all cars have anti siphon tanks.

First off, you can't calculate that way. If you fill your tank with lets say 16.9 gallons and then drive 121miles and your tank is empty, you need to fill your tank back up to find exactly how much fuel has been burnt. Then you can properly guage how many miles per gallon you are getting.

Hwever, something does seem kind of odd. Do you have a remotoe start that you are running all the time? Maybe you have a gas leak somewhere?

I checked everywhere and even under the truck but nothing still is wrong with it. Is it because that the gas stations contains 10 percent enthonal, maybe. but anyway, i always fill up at between 16 to 18 gallons of tank. When i filled up the tank the starting odometer reading was 64897 miles, then after 5 days or so i dont remember the last odometer reading was 65018 miles, for that i subtracted that number from 64,897 miles which came out 121 miles. i divided 121 by 16.9 gallons i filled the last time which came out to be 7.2 mpg.

I dont know what is wrong but i think that the only problem was i recently had an accident, just a minor damage on the front bumper....

Any suggestion
Thanks

Neal
