Default 2002 Dodge transmission "New"

I posted this in the newbie section on the dodge forum and realized it really belonged in the 3rd gen site so here it is.

I purchased a 2002 dodge ram this weekend cheap but I have to replace the trans. From what I can tell it is the 45RFE. I have the 5.9 so my research tells me it should be the 46RE but the identification says different. Anyway the question. Where can I buy a new transmission for this truck? A local shop said they can do all of the work for $1600 to $1800 and put a 3 year 75k warranty on it but I was hoping to find a transmission cheaper on the interenet. Me and a friend have done this kinda work before so I believe I can do this one as well. Any help would be great.

try calling up local junkyards or pick-n-pull. that would be the cheapest route.

Was that price quote from a shop for pulling and reinstalling the tranny also? If yes, pull it yourself, let him rebuild it and put it back in yourself.
