05 4.7L 6spd clutch replacment
Ok I have replaced clutchs before, this is the first time on my truck. I need to find out if i need to split the t-case from the trans, or could i pull them with out removing the torsion bar crossmemeber. as i dont have the tools to unload the torsion bars.
I dont know whats wrong with my clutch system yet, as i dont have pedal feel. I thought it was the sealed Hyd system but its not the problem, as the pedal goes to the floor and the clutch doesnt release, i pulled the slave out and was able to move the release fork back and forth. i dont know if the throw out bearing went or if the release fork is broken, or if the pressure plate is done for. all i do know is i have to pull the tranny.
and since ill be doing that ill replace all the parts and not worrie about it anymore.
so how many guys have replaced the clutch in the ram1500 4x4 with out removing the torsion bar cross memeber.
need to get my truck on the road again.
69875 miles on it, and the only time the clutch was abused was a couple times when off roading.
the only other problem i have had is my powersteering pump screams like it has no fluid but its got fluid. and the steering is hard unless i rev up the motor and let the pump scream so i can turn. thats another project, right now is getting the clutch repaired.

no pressure behind the pedal when pushing down, but yes comes back up.
if i take out the slave cylinder i can move the relase fork rod. to me i think the throw out bearing broke free off the release fork or the pressure plate fingers are broken.
all i can say is when i lost the pedal, i was down shifting pushed the clutch in it freewheeled like normal then bang, pedal went to the floor and the clutch was locked up. and this was at a redlight, had to force it into gear and press the pedal down and hit the starter to get going again,

well, found out what happend to my clutch, the factory disc split in half, and wedged the two half on one side, the pressure plate was all bent out of shape, never seen one split in half before,
I now have a centerforce stage 2 clutch, with all new parts that go with the clutch, everything from the pilot bearings to the little spring clip that holds the release lever in place, also while i was there i replaced the rear main seal, on my engine even though it wasnt leaking to bad, but it was wet, so why not.
my flywheel was polished flat, since it wasnt bad to start. but to seat the clutch for max life. it was worth the 25 bucks.
the hardest part was getting the darn t-case to slide past the torsion bar cross memeber with out removing it.

Your clutch plate split in two? I've been driving manuals since '72, and thats a new one on me. Just needing a clutch replacement at 70K is weird enough, but your circumstances border on bizarre. I wonder if there wasn't a casting imperfection, that finally showed itself. Anyway, glad to see that you're back on the road again!
hey speedy, did you go to centerforce to find that clutch? im having someone replace my throw out bearing in my 5 speed because i have really annoying whining sound from inside, but i wanted to upgrade my clutch with something better! do you like it? a have an appointment for throw out bearing, ( hopefully some kind of upgraded clutch ) ,ported heads
