4wd question.
well it depends. sometimes when it goes on automatically yu cant really tell when its on. it turns on and off. i had a handa crv with real time 4wd and it was excellant in the snow. But its a preference thing, whether youd rather flip it into 4x4 yourself or have it on as real time.
It's basically the same as the electronic shift-on-the-fly but there's another position on the dial that says "Auto." In that mode, like RaiderJay says, it only engages when the rears start to spin. It's a nice option (kinda wish I had it) because you can leave it engaged all the time, and the 4wd will kick in when your wheels slip. My friend has a Silverado with it, and it works pretty decent on his truck.
Sounds like a neat item, So I guess there is no way to add the option to an existing electric 4wd?
I was switching back and forth today and it was getting tedious, I was actually wondering why they didn't put the 4wd control on the steering wheel instead of the dash.

i doubt you can add and auto option to it but i could be wrong. and im sure with having the switch on the steering wheel people would be accidentally hitting it all the time. the shift on the fly works well and it helps if you know how to drive in snow. they say you can shift it over at any speed but i like to slow down alittle before i switch it, just as a pre cautionary measure.

This is the first time I have ever driven a LS Diff much less a 4wd vehicle on super slipery ice. I used to take my ferd with a Open Diff out, and boy that was fun.
I must say the LS diff helped alot in itself, But having the 4wd REALLY helped in some of the spots, Especially the turning. I never hit 30mph and averaged about 10 - 20 in most places, Even slower around other vehicles.
In my ferd turning was barely an option in conditions like this, Much less going. Although it sure was fun in the parking lots.
Now if they would just throw in a couple of anchors to help me stop this mammoth, All would be good.
I do have another question though, Does it hurt to turn on and off the 4wd?

Well without the 4wd these trucks would be pigs in the snow as a friend of mine said once. the stock tires are an accident waiting to happen and the one wheel peel diffs suck when taking off much less going anywhere when its snowy. i dont truly know if its harmful to keep switching to 4x4 but i dont like to do it as 4wd repairs are costly. you can go much faster then 30 in 4x4 but whos going to do that when the roads are bad. someone else here might have more info but thats my take on it.
