Auburn has clutch plates that can burn out..Only downside to an Auburn unit. Very good overall.
Detroit Truetrac is a solid carrier that has worm gears. No clutches and never needs any special lubes other than straight up oil. No chattering, no noises. Best by far IMO. My Mustang is awesome. I have a Truetrac in that.

I've asked alot of people that same ? and they all say unless your a hard core four wheeler, the Auburns will be sufficiant. Just what I've heard.

an auburn is definitely sufficient, no question. hell, even hammer has an auburn. but it's only $100 difference, and the DTT will never need service (except for oil change), they're damn near bulletproof.

i think hammer said the auburn requires regular oil with friction modifier. the DTT can get synthetic without friction modifier, so your oil change intervals can be twice as long. if you're fine with that, then an auburn will probably satisfy.

yea im not a hardcore 4x4 im basically just a weekend warrior and im tight on cash so im might just go with the auburn. and does anyone have them up front and back too or just back? and do see that much of a different with just replacing the stock lsd.

once again, weedhopper (or is that weedsmoker?), you are correct.

I have never had an issue with an Auburn and as far as clutch plates "wearing out", I know that theoretically they do, but I've had one in a truck for 68k miles when I sold it and it still locked up good as day one. That said, get the TruTrac. It just a better design. I think the only thing I've ever seen conclusive reports where the Auburn is better is that the clutches react slightly faster. So if you are a 4x2 guy looking for better track times, get the Auburn, all others, get the TT.

The only reason I have the Auburn (and again, I'm not displeased with it at all) is that when I had my gears done, detroit was just bought out of bankruptcy by Eaton, and the TT's for the AAM 9.25" were on national back-order...

Nah, I was confident enough in the Auburn, I had one in my '98 Dodge RCSB 5.9 4x4, it came with an open diff and I had it put in before the truck was 3 months old. At 68k, when I traded the truck in, it still locked up, every time just like from day one. Nope, all things equal, I'd get the TT but I'd never sway anyone from the Auburn either...
