Other than that keep her maintained and you're good to go.
I do baby the truck in traffic. Slow acceleration, lots of space. Glide to a stop, etc. I've got the stock 265/75/17s as well. That may be why I'm getting the 9.5-12.5. The problem is stop lights.

What's interesting is that it "feels" like babying it to much is actually hurting mileage. Giving it a heavier push to get the trans into drive faster seems to make the truck happier. I'm still playing with that as well as the tow/haul.

I wouldn't bother with tow/haul in your case...you don't have MDS and eliminating 5th gear is counter productive for mpg. It'll also hold gears longer which also isn't good for mpg.

I'm fairly certain that I'm rarely, if ever, in 5th during the commute. I might hit 4th a few times.

My thoughts on tow/haul is that since it's really difficult to maintain any particular speed (other than stop lights I'm mostly able to at least *move* by keeping room between others), is that reducing the 2-3-4-3-2 shifting helps with TQ/tranny slipping and keeps providing torque to get the truck moving after needing to slow down.

Not to sound like a boob but, look at what you drive...basically a brick.
There are some things that can be done to improve milage a little. But are the costs to make those improvements worth the end gain for the small amount of milage improvements you would get? I doubt it.

That's exactly the question I'm asking.

I bought a '94 Nissan pickup 4cyl/5spd to increase my around town mileage. $1,500 and it gets 21 mpg easily, 25 if I work at it. If this is not an option, switch to royal purple oil all around. If you have 20s, take them off and get some 17s. They are narrower and will eat less gas. Put it in tow/haul mode so the POS electronically controlled transmission will stop shifting into overdrive at 35, then immediately back out, then immediately back in again... that has gotta eat up the gas as well as wear out the transmission prematurely, not to mention make people think you don't know how to drive. If you are stopped at a long red light, shut the truck off. If you idle for more than 30 seconds it is more efficient to shut it off. Don't use the drive-thru. Also, the speed limit is not the speed you HAVE to go. Keep it 5-10 below. My '07 4.7 can get 15-16 around town, 18-24 highway.

I can drive like an old man in town and get 13.5mpg or drive like a normal person and get 13.0mpg. It's a V8, it's gonna guzzle gas there's no getting around it.
