just curious, cause i go wheelin with a few of the newer rams and they do pretty good... but i have never heard of them snappin front axles...

i know chevys IFS is weak as hell and they break daily... but the fords, have a have hearted IFS that thats why they are strong.

is the dodge IFS special? they dont break, or do i just not here about it?

dont know about the dodge ones but your right i dont hear about it as much. the chevy's your right again i wheel with one guy and every trip pretty much he breaks something on his ifs, given he does run 35's which is deffinitely the upper end of what ifs can handle but still shouldnt break 90% of the time we go out.

Chevy's are really bad, but as far as Dodge IFS goes, it ain't great either, and yeah 35's really should be the limit for any IFS truck.
But I'm thinking that you're just not hearing about it as much, what do you think?

ok, i retract my previous... that is a bad break. i guess the 35's are not such a good thing.. that can not be cheap to fix concidering the chevy ones at advancd are 60 something a piece...

but i was just woundering because my dad has an 04 ram 1500 with a tough country 3inch lift/ level kit, with 33" tires and say e cn hang with my 98 on 31"s... just woundering if i should pre order him some front axles for when we finally go wheeling

Hmm wonder what the problem is there lol . I think another reason why you dont hear about it as much is becuse for 1. I think more ppl wheel older chevy's then dodges and 2. dodge used a solid front axle alot longer then chevy did atleast from what ive seen. And also most dodges that have ifs are newer trucks and newer trucks rarely see the beating of some hard off-roading. But seeing as its dodge, dodge is clearly superior to chevy ifs lol.

IFS is not as strong as SAS obviously. But honestly IFS is a lot stronger now than it used to be. People really underrate it. As long as you keep your tire size within reason you can beat on it pretty good.

yah i think really the biggest problem would be cv joint's which arent all that exspensive and rather easy to replace. we've done a couple on my friends nissian, again thats a 12 year old truck though. I guess you rarely hear of newer trucks with big problems like they use too, like you said IFS is just stuck with the stigma of crap just like american auto-makers have the stigma of not being fuel effecient. If you actually look into, dodge is right up there with toyota, honda and nissian other then in the small car section, which dodge has none lol. Anyways sorry really off topic, new age IFS will do just fine if your running 33's and light to medium 4x4ing. If you wanna start running 37+ and/or mud bogging and rock crawling dont even think about it with IFS.

02-05 torsion bar can clear 35x12.5 on stock rims, the 06-08 coil overs can't do it without at least a .25'' spacer.
