what could be wrong with the amp?
well unless you have hactually heard the setup, there could be a number of things wrong with it. It could have a channe blown out of it, could have been weakened by being wired wrong, may have over heated too many times, the list goes on and on. I wouldnt worry about it too much, but just voicing the issues that could arise.

Default Stereo...

I have read all the replys and i have Installed alot of stereos for people and when you are buying a deck...first try the bal..fad..and crank it and if that is ok..then your fine .....For an amp...turn it on with a car running and with it of and crank it...if ok..then your fine...But for SUBS being used...I will never go there or buy used...No matter how the cone is...the mag can go at anytime even new or used but if it has been pushed to or over its limit lets say it will shorten its life...So, Amp and stereo...check..( SUBS ) ( NO )...my opion and I have even worked in a audio install garage for 3 years...subs you don't play with...
Good luck luck with your dec...

i dont see how the subs could have been pushed over their limit. they had a very high power rating and the amp was not powerful enough to max it.
thats interesting how you wont buy subs but anything else is fine. subs seem to me to sell the most in used audio equipment

so what does anyone here think those subs and amp is worth?
also, should i get a new stereo or will my stock one be fine?

Default Audio..

You seem to have either made your mind up already about the system. But what I am saying will take to long to tell you so go to an audio stote in your area and they can explained what I have said to you. It doesn't matter if the amp they have used is less amps then the sub(s)...It is on how they are pushed to the limiits with a high or low power amp and a low power amp can screw an amp up more...So i am just letting you know so if you need more in fo see an audio expert for FREE and they can tell you the same thing I did...

not trying to go too far in depth here, but an under powered amp can actually hurt speakers. A lot of it depends on the sound frequencies applied to the speaker as well.
I know that many of my friends have siezed their speakers from running bass test clips at too high of a level. I have been playing with steros ever since i was big enough to use a screwdriver.

IMO, just go look and listen to the damn thing

under powering speakers is one of the best ways to blow them out!
