not really by hitting the snag point, something is stopping the truck, by going forward you are going away from the snag point, everytime you back up, your rear brakes adjust themselves, i would say the adjustment went full bore and just locked up the rear wheels. being so cold out and just sitting. and when you went forward the springs would just retract letting off the brakes

nope, if it 'snagged' between the ring and pinion, moving forward would move it away from the teeth that were catching. then if i moved back a little harder it would really wedge it in between the splines, so i can't go front or back.

puzzle is a good way to describe this ****. I'm with hammer for now. I was thinking spider binding, but c clips getting caught sounds much more likely.

so if it let go of a c clip...does it matter? can i keep driving fine?

no, if your c-clip is gone you can loose your axleshaft, it will just slide right out.

If it's broke clean and is now down on the magnet, it's not causing any immediate harm, but you run the risk of a total grenade if more come loose, and of course, the less you have, the weaker the axle.
Take care of it before you use the truck...

I've got the all the Dodge manuals for 04 Rams on my computer. They used to be downloadable but I think Dodge put an end to that.
