I have a theory. No, not about the white kids on the bus, about the backlash.

The backlash seemingly went away after I pulled the transfer case out of 2wd and into N/4WDLO, then back again. The trans likely mates to the transfer case with splines. I wonder if the slop was coming from the transfer case because the splines had been mated in the same way for so long. It hadn't come out of 2wd/4HI for probably 15k miles. Now that the splines rotated a bit relative to each other, no more slop.

what do you guys think?
