Default "Change oil" on dash (odometer)

I just hit 5K miles on the odometer and had oil changed at the dealer 1,000 miles ago. "change oil" now shows up when I start the truck.

Is "change oil" just because of time/mileage, and the dealer didn't reset it, or can there be something more ominous?

I pulled the dipstick and the oil still looks yellow/fresh. I don't know if it was the right level because I checked it warm, but I'll go back out in a bit and see where it has settled to. Oil pressure indicator has always looked fine.

Thanks,

Oil level looks fine now that it's cooled off and drained into the pan.

Look in the manual. It will tell you how to reset it. I can't remember off hand.

Or, bring it back to the dealer and have them do the job properly like I paid them for. Dealer is about 5 blocks away from work and on the way in.

You can reset it your self buy turning the key to "on" , not start, wait for all the lights and chimes to stop then push the gas peddle to the floor and release 3 times and turn the key off.... done

if you just bought an 04 and are waiting for the oil change light to come on, then you should just do the oil change right away, unless you know when the previous owner changed the oil last.
