Anyone out there have a good part # and where to get one for a Heavy duty clutch fan for the 2004 Quad 1500- 4.7 engine? I need to try this to see if it will stop or reduce the overheating on the highway with the Fisher blade on. I made an air foil it did help a bit but wanted to try the HD clutch Fan.
Has anyone tried this on their Dodge and did it work? Mine is the non electric one just mechanical.

I posted the above in snowplow.com and recommended I come here to ask the problem question.

My problem is The truck overheating when I have the plow on and I am on the Highway going about 50-55 mph the truck will almost redline to hot. If I keep it under 50 maybe 45 it will be ok but if I have to speed up it will start to rise to getting hot. Will putting in a heavy duty fan clutch help? Has anyone had this problem with the 1500 4.7 engines? If I ride in the city the truck will be fine just having the problem on the highway.

Someone suggested the fan clutch and others recomended a bigger radiator. Or an electric fan which I think will cost over $1k for everything.

Any suggestions appreciated

yea thats one of the problems with putting a plow on a truck the plow stops the air flow into the front of the truck. not sure if that will help you are not, someone will though.

if you dont mind my asking how does that 2004 do plowing? ive been thinking about putting one on my truck next winter but it will void the warranty. have you had the plow on for the whole time you had the truck? can it push ok? have you had to replace much?

Just had it put on about 3 weeks ago in Portsmouth Ford. I haven't had a snow storm to use it on so can"t report on the snowplowing with the 1500. I have been told if ya don"t beat on it it will be ok. I had a set of Timbrens put on the front. The truck rides ok with the plow on except on the highway on the way home to Boston it started to over heat. That is why I'm asking here if any one had this problem with a plow on and driving on the highway overheating. Would the HD clutch fan help. Some say yes anad some say no. Any suggestions?

 

If you need to lower the temperature, you might want to also replace your hood with one that can breathe better. I'm not sure about the SRT-10 hood, I think that was meant to let air out.

Does it only happen when you have the plow on?

I've had my 4.7 wound up to about 4,000 RPM, going up a pretty steep mountain road in 90 degree heat and never had an issue. And it was for a stretch of about 15 miles. The temp guage never went above the mid mark and the AC never even got a little warmer.

Still running the stock clutch fan and the stock radiator with the stock fluid in it.

 

His plow is preventing air from coming in through his grille, and making it so that he isn't getting any air flow in, that's why he's overheating.
