Default '06 1500 SLT Quad Cab Suspension

I have been informed that my shocks are shot. The shop called them struts but I know they are coil overs. Can I just replace the shocks with a Rancho 9000 series? I am going to do all 4 wheels. The Monroe replacements are on backorder. If I have to do the work I would like to upgrade the suspension. Am I think correctly or do I need to change other items as well?

Go straight to the Rancho's or look at the Bilstein's. Best two shocks made IMO.
I'm running the 9000's and LOVE THEM. Plus I'm a firm believer in when you have to replace a stock part, make it a MOD!
I just broke my pillar post in the truck and since I have to get a new one anyway, ordered the SRT one with the gauge pod. Putting in a tranny temp gauge. Make it a mod everytime! Why spend $$ on a replacement when for a couple bucks more you can make it a mod and have better...

I agree. Dealer wants $800 installed with OEM shocks. I have another quote for about $850 for the Napa or Monroe (I think).

I also want to do the tranny temp gauge. I am thinking about the Derale remote filter kit and temp sensor.

first off, go give the dealer and the other guy a swift kick to the nads. Then go buy ranchos for about $250-$300 TOTAL, and put them on yourself in an hour-2.

Agreed, shock replacement is as easy as changing your oil. Simple socket set is all that's required, although with the front ones, it's nice to have an allen key to wedge in to keep the bottom part from spinning while getting the nut off (you go to change them, you'll see what I mean).
An hour to an hour and a half to change them in the driveway/garage, topps...

an impact gun will zip the top nut off! a wall mounted spring compressor definetely helps.

is it a little harder to do on the 06-08 rams? looking at it looks like you have to take the whole coil out to get to it. am i wrong?

With the front struts you need to support the front end while relieving pressure off the front suspension. Take the entire strut assembly off of the truck, compress the spring and then take the strut out and put the new strut in the spring. Then put the assembly back on teh truck. Not too bad, but harder than a regular shock.

I am going tackle this on myself. It will be a first time for me. I am able to get Bilsteins for $79 for the front and $65 for the back. If anyone knows a online place that can beat those prices I will be happy to hear about it.
