wouldnt the tool box block some of the air flow to the radiator causing heating issues or would it be fine

I wouldn't think so, but who wants to crawl under their truck everytime they dig out a flashlight or a set of wrenches?? Sounds like a pain. Especially if it's raining and wet outside.

If you do make one, make sure it's properly sealed from the weather!
I would think a bed toolbox is the better way to go, plus it gives you some stylin! I have been debating on getting one myself since I have a trailer to tow things if they won't fit in the bed.

If you forget to lock it one day, you'll have tools every where when you drive off.
You'll probably think im stupid, but, what about a little handy wrap kit,- Screw drivers and wrench's stored in the air box under the filter. Loads of room in there.!! I dont mean fill it up, cus that would be silly, but a few would fit. Would keep them dry as well. !

There is enough room behind the bumper for quite a bit of height without hanging too low or blocking the airflow. And, access would be by simply popping the hood, not crawling underneath.

I'm thinking a little bit bigger than a handi-wrap. My kit is screwdriver, pliers, etc. but also stuff like electrical tape, small lengths of hose, etc., in addition to a bottle jack. There is a pretty good amount of room under the rear seat (with the load floor) for stuff like jumper cables, hitch-ball mount, X-wrench for lugnuts, etc, but it's filling up.

Sounds like a good idea-
Ive always thought about fabbing up some kind of brackets to bolt a toolbox with a latch in there.
Hell you got a quad cab! you outta have plenty of room in there! Haha
I have a regular cab- and although the dodges have so much room behind the seat for a standard cab (which i love)- i've always wanted a place to store chains/hitches/ratchet straps without using a bed toolbox.
I use my bed too much and can't afford to use up bed space.

If you do throw some pics on here- i'd love to see what you came up with...

Yeh, Ive just looked at mine and there is a lot of room there, and all bellow the rad. Could work good if it was secured real well. Access as you said, just by opening the hood.

i think its a great idea...im gonna see what i can come up with on this. even if its just a small toolbox from sears or something bolted up there and strapped shut would be great. i would love to have a place to put my tow strap and larger wrenches and stuff instead of putting them under the seat. bed toolbox is not an option right now for me either.

yeah a bed toolbox is usually in the way more often then not, specially if you actually use the truck for a truck...having that toolbox there just cuts down on the useable space of the bed....but you could put a fair sized toolbox behind the front bumper and get everything in it that you'd need

If you end up putting somthing together post some pics on the forum.. I wana see what you came up with..
